Are second gen and first gen springs/struts interchangable with out switching tophats?

I'm not sure, but it's not all that hard to switch out the tophats, you know. Rent a spring compressor from Autozone and you're halfway there.

second gen struts and springs suck. 02 - 07 wrx struts interchange with second gen legacy...so look into that. MUCH better option

I'm not looking to swap in stock struts from a wrx. I'm trying to set up an aftermarket full coilover system with pillowball mounts
