I installed a JL 10w3 with an 1600 watt MA Audio amp in my car with the harmon kardon speakers. I tapped my line output into the speaker wires attached to the stock sub woofer, and i ran the radio wire to the cigar lighter fuse in the fuse box under the steering wheel. I also mounted the line output to one of the trunk beams next to the stock sub.

This Subaru 20-pin pin-out table should help (although it doesn't show Legacy/Outback factory colors). Be sure to see the notes towards the bottom for options to avoid splicing factory wires.

If you really want to tap into your factory wires, search for "vacation pix".

from what i am told is that the wire harness for the sub is already there, what wires did you splice onto?

In cars without the factory harman/kardon or McIntosh systems, the harness for the OEM underseat sub is not pre-installed. The harness will only be there if the powered subwoofer accessory kit was added at some point (by the port, dealer, or previous owner).

Sedans with the h/k system have a sub on the deck behind the rear seats. The wires run to the h/k amp (under the passenger seat).

For your non-h/k Legacy, the best/easiest way is to access the speaker outputs behind the HU. I have harnesses that make that much easier. See link I posted above.
