We imported in a super rare JDM Legacy Momo steering wheel in to the USA and was wondering if it would fit any USDM vehicles?

The intention was to install it on one of our customer cars (1998 Forester), but don't think the airbag is the same.

Can anyone help us out?

Any Legacy guys interested in buying it from us?

Hey he can fit that wheel in his car.. I have a jdm momo wheel in my car that i got from japan. you have to use the airbag charge and harness from the usdm wheel.

Your wheel probably didnt come with a airbag charge in it so it will look like this.. you want to take the charge out of the usdm wheel and mount the charge on the momo bag.. dont forget the harness from the usdm wheel.. you can slip it off with needle nose... If you look closely in the jdm wheel there is even a spot for the cruise control to go.. you will have to drill a hole to allow it to pass threw.

Wiring shouldn't be too hard, all you need to do is find out what wires do what. Physically it should just bolt right on.

That airbag momo is from 96-98 BG legacy's that didn't have dual airbags, mid spec 97-98 impreza's (HX20's, WRX's etc)(Version 4 only) and SF5A foresters. Later in 98 they changed to a different design (when they went to BH legacy's, and V5 imprezas)

During that period as well, there was a different style airbag wheel that came on BG's with dual airbags, and version 4 STi's. What I can tell you about the wiring is that the MY96 momo's, and the MY97 momo's are different, I know cause I have a spare airbag out of a 96 in my garage, and it doesn't plug into my MY97 GTB, yet are identical in every other regard.

That's about all I can tell you.

Thanks for the info. What about the single stage airbag charge? It looks like the nuts (all 4) are orientated 45degrees. Meaning, not a perfect square orientation like the usdm charges.

The back of this momo airbag part looks like this (see below):

Well wires are wires, voltages are voltages. I suppose you need to find out if said voltages are the same between JDM and USDM. If it works out as simple as the airbag only needing a 12v to set it off, then you're fine. Any differences in the airbag are irrelevant, as long as they are both triggered in the same mannor. That is what is important. My concern would be the airbag talking to the airbag computer, i know they do. I don't know if it's a sensor, or if the computer simply measures resistance, one of those wires will be a wire to talk back to the airbag computer. I wish I new more about that side of things but I don't I'm afraid.
