Took the Liberty GT Manual Wagon for a drive last week and here is my review.

The Good.

Engine is great.
Like the interior design and looks good.
Price is ok,

The BAD.

Gear shift is woeful.

Seats - for a sports type car they do not offer much support.

Noisy - the tyre noise was really bad. Mind you can change to quieter tyres. Not sure how noisy the actual car is as the tyres were so bad.

Ride - I expected sporty - firm ride but the ride is as harsh as the Frontier Dual Cab I currently drive.

So end result, another car gets removed from my list.

Thanks for all you feedback.

Cheers

You're saying the liberty GT has stiff suspension? Any idea what the rates were? USDM rides like a couch...

Is this yet another area where we got screwed on this side of the pond?

I thought the overseas models got Bilsteins which may be part of it. I never noticed lots of tire noise with mine when I had it. Snow tires made some sound but not the Bridgestones.

That's correct, the AUDM models at least do get Bilstein struts. I have found them more comfortable the more km's are put on them to wear them in. In saying that though, the whole chassis loses a lot of composure when braking on a very bumpy road or turning into a very bumpy corner. More so than my Gen4 Liberty with Bilstein struts.

The Aussie model also costs significantly more than the North American-spec. model though. A $40-$45k Legacy in the US would be a hard sell as at that pricepoint you're well into A4, 3 Series, etc. territory. I'll definitely agree that I would have loved to have seen some of the bits our members in other parts of the world get as options here in the US, but that doesn't fit with Subaru's plan for the Legacy I suppose.

If they shod them with RE050s, yeah, those tires are god awful loud. Falken 615s are more quiet than the Bridgestones...
