Just here to vocalize and speak about some possible transmission issues. Not sure what I am looking for outside of others tales / comments.
2007 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited | Automatic | 4 cyl.
A few weeks ago I took my Legacy in to the local dealer (Dealer #1) to get a few recalls
taken care of. It was the brake line belt (salt/rust) and the airbag sensor if I recall.
The next week, on an extremely hot day, I have a freak electrical issue
. Some auxiliary wiring, poorly tied to a fuse started smoking. A tow to the local Subaru Dealership (dealer #2 in this story) and a quick fuse replacement and I'm back on the road. On my way home, the vehicle starts "driving rough"
I tried cleaning out the throttle body and resetting everything with the battery drain trick. In doing so, I sort of broke the MAP sensor
. The car now will stall the moment I turn it over.
Back to Dealer #1. New Spark Plugs. Car returned to me. Stalling has subsided but the "Rough drive" continues. The vehicle has issues shifting from 1 - 2 or from Reverse to drive there is a noticeable lag
Off to Sears to rotate and balance tires. They note the rough drive issue but I did not have them look further into it.
New MAP sensor comes in, I replace it. No change in issues. On my way to work the next day the AT Fluid Temperature
light came on.
Back to Dealer #1. They tell me that I was "4 quarts low on AT Fluid"
and "no sign of a leak"
. Not sure how I am that low on fluid all of a sudden, but what ever. They fill me up and return the car to me with the caveat that "if the issues persist we'll have to replace your transmission"
Not more than 5 minutes down the road I notice a slight "Surge"
. Surge meaning the RPMs jumped from 2000 to 4500 and back down to 2000. I've tried to tell myself its nothing, but it has happened 4 more times today.
I want to believe its an electrical issue but I've honestly no idea. Its not throwing a code yet. There is no burning smell, there is no leak.
- Could it be a simple computer reset of some sort?
- Am I looking at having to get a new transmission?
- How much would this cost?
- Should I look at a new vehicle?
Not really expecting you to respond with a fix or cure, just needed to get this experience down on "paper" and perhaps talk with someone about it.
I will be taking it to my friend's shop rather than the dealer. Part of me still is suspicious as to how I could have been 4qts low on something that has no leaks and I've never touched. They suggested that someone may have drained it mistakenly when they changed the oil
but didn't seem to offer up that it may have been them!
In any case...doesn't change that I'm here now and still need to correct this issue. I'm going to take it to a friends shop, see what he thinks the issue is, and I suppose I'll reassess.
Thanks for reading.
