Both are doable, and really not that difficult. As LagIsForePlay mentioned, you just need to switch to the nav-style or non-nav-style OEM fascia with the corresponding OEM HU. Check out pictures on cars101.com
You two could at least swap fascias. Possibly HUs too. John- what OEM HU model do you have (find number printed on the front).
To switch to aftermarket in a car with non-nav OEM, you just need one of the aftermarket dash kits. That converts the non-standard sized opening to a standard double- (or single-) DIN size opening.
To go aftermarket in a car with OEM nav HU, you also need the non-nav fascia (in addition to the aftermarket dash kit).
2013-2014 non-nav OEM HU fascia is the same as 2010-2012.
The OEM fascia for 2013-2014 nav HU (maps on SD card) may be the same as the one for 2010-2012 nav (maps on DVD). Someone would need to check whether the cars use the same fascia P/Ns.
The wiring differences are not too bad. Most dealers won't help you (or would charge outrageous prices), but I can set you up with the harnesses you'd need.
ADDED: In the post by Beeswax (that JLGT linked to), the aftermarket dash kit is recessed, like amidroc's pics. Beeswax just tilted his new HU's motorized face to angle it flush with the rest of the dash.
