Finally making a thread to use as my log for anyone interested.
Picked it up bone stock with an idle problem and paint in rough shape. Got it from a Japanese auction and it fit everything I was currently looking for in a car.
It's a 2003 BL5 Spec B. The stock wheels came wrapped in "studless" winter tires. Kept those mounted and set aside for the coming winter. Did some looking around and came across some GramLight T57-RCs in 18x7.5+48. The tires were damn near new (RE050A), so I picked them up.
Next was to lower it. What a pain in the ass. Picked up a set of RSR Ti2000 and painfully installed them in the parking lot. Next day found a set of STi rear sections and bought them. Sound nice, not loud, not silent, but can get a bit throaty when opened up. Threw in some Defi gauges to monitor stuff, waiting on a wideband before tuning. Actually bought these gauges before I even bought the car.
Eventually got around to taking care of the rough paint. It still has some chips and spots that need heavier correction, but it came out nice for the most part. Good enough to last through winter, anyway. I can say, though, obsidian black pearl is a beautiful color. For anyone curious, this was done with a Porter Cable 7424XP and Wolfgang products.
My Tactrix cable got lost in the mail, but is making its way to me. My next plan is to get that, learn the Subaru ECUs a bit, pick up a new turbo, and tune away. Not sure I want to splurge on a Prova AP and get it tuned professionally, but may end up going that route if I get lazy.
There are a bunch of things I'm looking for everyday, and I'm excited to see how this thing turns out in a year from now.
Stock, as purchased minus the gauges.
After wheels installed and paint correction
After wheels plasti-dipped. Looking for some new wheels. Eyeballing some CR Kais or XD9s.
For shits and giggles... the past cars.
