i think the h6 has 7500 mile oci. So in theory you should be fine

Even the cheapest $4.00 FRAM oil filter will easily last for 5000 miles.

I would not run Fram filter more then 3k. IMO
I finally got around to pulling both of the Banjo filter bolts. The turbo one was about 50% plugged. And the driver side ACVS unit was 25% plugged.

But change my mind. Do to my oil\filter change history. I put new filter bolts in to see if the clogging took place more in the first 30k Mobil1\Fram or the last 43k, using Amsoil oil\filer.

Most off the shelf oil filter, filter down between 20 & 40 microns. Amsoil full-flow oil filter is 15 microns & Amsoil By-Pass oil filter is 2 microns.
This filtration system add 2qts. of oil to you motor. Which help keep the oil cooler.
In short, check you oil level often & top as needed. Use oil & filter that will protect for the OCI your running. OA's is the only way you know that your oil & filter is up for the challenge. After that IMO no OA's are needed.

The deposits are largely due to degraded oil and not the filter falling down on the job. I've cut open a number of filters over the years and none of them looked clogged. This includes Amsoil EAO filters with 15,000 miles on them.

I'm not surprised that Amsoil kept the filter screens clean. A friend of mine has over 200k on his 2005 WRX, using the Amsoil 0w-30 or 10w-30 and an EAO filter, changed every 10,000 miles. I don't recommend running quite this long due to the TSB from Subaru. However I have no doubt that oil quality is the main factor in preventing this problem.
PAO and/or ester based synthetics (Amsoil, Redline, Motul, Mobil 1/0w-40, etc) are superior to Group 3 oils when it comes to oxidative and thermal stability.

Wow, all it took for me was two 8k mile runs on SSO (on a turbo with only 20k miles on it), with an EAO filter, and my turbo was done!
I'm guessing the filter getting too hot from the header wouldn't be a problem on an H6. Should be fine to 7,500 miles, IMO.

Dennis,
I doubt the oil had much to do with the turbo failure at such low mileage. However, for a modified WRX engine I would probably have advised running something thicker than a 0w-30. Particularly if you were doing some off roading on the beach. My friends WRX is mostly used on the highway (about a 30 mile commute each way), so fuel dilution isn't an issue.
When in doubt, go with a thicker oil. At worse you'll sacrifice a bit of high rpm performance due to the increased pumping losses.
