Not sure how to explain this, but my Legacy seems to have a "Tight Transmission".... let me explain.... like Engine Brake or whatever it's called.
Say i hit the gas and take off i might take my foot off the gas pedal to coast, instead of coasting, the car seems to have hit the brakes on me... and slow to almost a crawl... Sorry its a CVT.
Any idea why this might be happening? Otherwise, Loving my first Sub!

i'll call the dealer up, the sad part is there are no dealers here in Manhattan, NYC, only in queens, and it's pretty far from my job, that will have to be a full day thing... need to be a planned out thing.

Please let me clarify, the car does not come to a complete stop or into a dangerous slow down.... it just slows down on it's own without me touching the break faster than allthe other i've owned...
This is my first CVT though. So i thinking it's normal.
Thanks for taking time to read and answer. Have a great weekend! First 100 Mile Road Trip is tomorrow!

Sounds like engine braking. Are you in manual mode at all?

Ellesedil's mind went where mine did... Do you experience abnormally high rpm, when driving normally? While your CVT may exhibit what to you may seem high rpm while accelerating, at speed, your rpm should drop, and be rather low. If rpm are continually high - 3 - 4K, etc., you might be in manual mode.
Subaru has created pseudo 'gears' in your car, using the computer, for those who wish to hold a certain RPM range. Those computer-created 'gears' will create engine braking, depending on the 'gear' chosen...
If your car is demonstrating severe engine braking, and is not in manual mode, there is a malfunction.
Best.

Or just stop by your dealer and ask to take a quick test drive in another 2013 with CVT and see if you get similar behavior.

The only CVTs I have ever driven had no manual mode. Each of them had less engine braking than any automatic I have driven.
Best.

What you are describing is normal for Subaru CVT's...as you coast to a slower speed there is a discernible sense of engine braking.....try coasting to a stop uphill and it is quite noticeable ....almost as if the CVT is gearing down to help you slow down.
Mine has done that since new and I asked the dealer service guys about it...totally normal.

I might be wrong but for me CVT does feel like when I put a manual transmission in low gear for my car to slow down. If that make any sense at all.
