OK, so saw my car driving away today and don't like the look of two brake lights (regular one in back window and the spoiler brake light). Anyone, disabled the standard brake light and is there a process?
Was going to start dis-assembling, but wondered about burnt-out bulb indicators, killing the spoiler light (if fed by original light), etc.,

When i had a wrx with spoiler I would just pull the bulb out of the back window light. Should work with Legacy.

Pretty sure it's LED so no bulb to remove, but there is a harness under there. Could try unplugging it and see what happens.

I noticed the other day upon close inspection of mine which had the spoiler installed by the dealer that they have just put some black tape accross the LED's in the window. Simple solution - never would have noticed if I hadn't looked at it so closely.. Works well.

haha, was the tape on the inside or outside of the window? think I like that idea better than unplugging it.

I like that idea as well, I'll try it.

are you guys serious? tape over brake light = ghetto. bring it back to the dealer and ask them to unplug it. apparently the plug is a PITA to get to. i brought mine back and ten minutes later i had only 3 brake lights instead of four

^^^ actually yeah :P
I'd rather have it covered up than exposed and not working, last thing I need is some prick cop thinking I've got a burnt out brake light...

Rutchard,
I've seen on some of your threads that you have access to some tech manuals. Have you seen anything on getting to the brake light by any chance? It looks like you have to take off the rear deck from what I can tell, but wondering if there is an easier way

The service manual says to remove the rear deck Which involves removing the bottom of the back seat and most of the trim on the sides up to the rear deck and the seatbelts. The plug is right under the brake light if you can get in somehow through the trunk.

PA has some crazy inspection rule that if there is a brake light it must be functional, it will not pass inspection if the lights do not work, so my only option is to block it off, I have just been too lazy to actually look into doing anything with it yet. Maybe fab up a black plate that fits into that space between it and the rear glass. Didn't someone make one that had Legacy GT letters on it so that the lights would light up the letters?

Rutchard, thanks for the svc manual reference, it is appreciated. I'll give it a go next week.
