Cobb DP and Mid/Y Pipe Raspy??

Recommended Posts

I have had a Cobb catless DP for a couple months now, just added the Cobb Mid/Y pipe.

Took some vids to get everyone an idea of the sound. It sounds awful raspy too me... Maybe I need a resonator but I have heard the full Cobb CBE before and it sounds much much better then mine.

I thought keeping the stock cans would keep it quite. I can't feel any leaks at idle. I was hoping there was an exhaust leak but I have not seem to of found one so far.

Mods are:

-Cobb Stage II AP

-Cobb Catless DP

-Cobb Uppipe

-Cobb Mid/Y pipe

-Perrin TMIC

-Avo panel filter

Pics of the Cobb mid/y pipe I purchased.

Now WTF that sounds wayyyy better then mine :(

Man, that sounds horrible. Are you sure nothing is loose? It almose sounds like there's metal on metal contact. Beyond that, I doubt you'll get the deeper tone like the other exhaust using stock cans.

I pretty sure there is no metal on metal. But ugh I want this fixed.

:whore: to that sounding absolutely awful. Recheck your install.

Ugh I know. When the car is idling I put my hand under near the mid/dp where the donut gasket is and feel no air. Did the same for where the Y pipe meets the mufflers. I wish I had access to a lift so I could get it up in the air.

Well first off you have a catless setup with NO resonator on the mid and y. Also your using stock cans, the stock cans sounded quite tin-y after i put on the x02 mid and y on my old car. After i put on the avo's the baffles in the avo's dropped down the sound by alot and made it quite deep, even the x02 mufflers dropped down the sound as well as my custom made lachute muffler replica's. Try using a different muffler, also install a resonator in the mid and y. The video you posted which is not yours is using cobb mufflers too.

its because of the stock mufflers without a doubt, if there's no leaks nothing else really could contribute to that raspyness....get the cobb mufflers and it will sound like that silver lgt...did u notice a signifcant power gain thru those mods?

Added the uppipe and the mid/y pipe at the same time. Definitely could notice a difference.

I thought a couple people had run the cobb or the perrin mid/y pipe with stock cans before in order to keep the noise down a bit.

I'm running an Invidia Catless DP with the Perrin Mid/Y with stock cans. I think it sounds alright. can't really tell if its raspy cuz its not that loud. But when I step on it, the boxer rumble is much more noticeable than stock. The Perrin Mid/Y have a resonator though.

i have the perrin d/p and mid/y with stock cans and it doesn't sound raspy at all. it sounds a lot like a stock sti, just a little bit of the classic unequal length header subaru boxer sound. i do have a cat and a resonator, maybe that makes a difference.

I would be glad to trade but i can't have downtime since i use my car to commute to and from work. So if your willing to ship first i will gladly ship it out once i put the cobb on.

The problem is the stock cans have a lot of baffling material in them. With the increased flow of an other wise free-flowing exhaust they sound like crap IMO.

I had planned to run aftermarket mid/y and stock cans with my other wise free flowing exhaust system (Grimmspeed header, GS UP, Cobb DP) until I heard those sound clips. Now I'm just gonna leave the CBE completely stock or do some quiet axlebacks like the AVOs or something.

Wow I didn't know having a resonator in there makes that big of a difference in sound quality. Now I'm wondering whether it's really worth it to get the aftermarket mid+Y when I move to Stage II.

But dyno says its worth it.

Keep in mind that I'm running at catless DP and stock mufflers. I just picked up a set of Cobb Mufflers and they are on the way. At this point I dont care if its much louder i just want it to sound better with a lower tone and no raspyness.

Always worth openning up our exhaust and improving the flow . Maybe a little loud and annoying with a catless DP and straight thru mufflers (drone issues) but there are solutions. Def been there.
