I have a 2000 LGT 4AT, and around 65-70mph it is at 2800-3000 rpm's. Is that normal, is the converter not locking?

My 5MT is about the same, maybe even higher, if that helps...

That's about right. The 5MT's tend to have slightly higher RPM's because they are geared differently.

My torque converter locks if you stay about 45+ for a little while and don't goose the throttle too much. My Legacy is considerably older however....

Yup. Pretty much the same. 68-70-ish MPH at 3K RPM (in 5th) and 3500 or so RPM at 80-ish MPH. Looking to swap out for a 6MT for an EJ some time in the near future. Or maybe just swapping out the gears. *shrug*

In all honesty, I haven't looked too far into the gear swap yet as I figure it would be easier to just swap the whole transmission. I would imagine that a gear swap IS doable as long as someone somewhere has gears that fit... *shrug*
