bdickey058
I'm looking for a cai or short ram intake for my car. What would be the best for it? cobb cai with the box, injen, aem, or that blitz forced induction intake?
trackhore
Safe, stock box. Best for you... which ever one has the most street cred with your local car gang. Best for me, which ever one is properly tuned for.
Bolksey85
If you have to get one, I'd say Cobb. Most if not all of the cheapos are gonna throw MAF scaling off. If you research, there's literally 100's of posts regarding cold air's, improper MAF scaling, and why they aren't really needed on a Subaru. snow05gtRI
the cobb one throws off the MAF scaling too. even if you just get a panel filter it throws off the scaling. if you want an intake you need to get it tuned for or there's the possibility of running dangerously lean or rich. I have an AEM CAI and love it. not screeching loud like the SPT I had before it, but still nice audible turbo and car noises. they dont seem to have much effect on the stock turbo, but are able to flow more air. kevkel33leg05
pretty sure the cobb intake doesnt throw off the maf scaling. When cobb made it it was copied off of the factory air box. Hence the reason its the only intake you can use with cobb ots maps
Regal05LGT
There's really not an advantage of a CAI on the stock turbo, just the cool noise
kevkel33leg05
I agree with Regal05LGT Im still on stock airbox even with the fmic.

bdickey058
Ive heard a lot of horror stories about removing the intake silencer. Matter of fact there was a thread on this site that showed how to do it but it no longer there. I heard it messes with your gas mileage a lot too. in a bad way!!!!!! What if you plug the hole where the silencer use to be? That's what I did with mine. I don't see how it can effect anything if it is plugged. Just a suggestion

JBird
eh if you DRIVE this car even a little your gas mileage isnt great anyways. avg i get about 18mpg both before and after the silencer
bdickey058
I live out of town so my gas mileage is usually around 23 mpg, i drive mostly back and fourth to school/work which is highway or interstate!
snow05gtRI
there have been reported situations of the cobb intake making the car run leaner...i'm not gonna search but they're there. theres also same situations of people having intake issues after the silencer delete. oscillating MAF and also leaning out. before you make any decision search around to make sure its the right one for you... Regal05LGT
That doesn't seem logical that it affects gas mileage that much
Mr. Ed
Ive heard a lot of horror stories about removing the intake silencer. Matter of fact there was a thread on this site that showed how to do it but it no longer there. I heard it messes with your gas mileage a lot too. in a bad way!!!!!! The only "horror stories" I've read...are the same as running something like the aem... (and I haven't heard it much..the 08+wrx and sti don't have the silencer anymore..the hole is plugged) is that you potentially run the risk of water getting into the intake...and on to the maf... it happened to me frequently with the aem..on flash flood days, where more than a foot of water was present on streets along curbs etc... just adding an intake isn't going to do much at all, and is a big no no without a tune...but combined with other add on's and a tune it can be beneficial... The only "dip" I've ever seen in gas mileage from an intake is from people driving more aggressively....so they can hear the sound I had the aem on my car for almost 2 years and loved it... during that time we had record amounts of rain and water on the maf occurred prolly 4 times...I just learned to stay out of the puddles along the curb On the new car I have removed the front snorkel and added a k&n filter panel... snow05gtRI
just wondering, how come you removed the snorkel? just so it can suck straight in that square hole?

snow05gtRI
Mr. Ed said the "front snorkel" which I had always thought was the piece that attaches to the front of the air box and directs air from the grill area into the box.
johnAWD
The stock airbox is more than sufficient for a stage 2+ car. Drop in an aftermarket panel filter and you'll be good to go.
bdickey058
with a aftermarket panel filter will i get the suckin of a intake though like the cobb box has?
