stangbanger95
05 legacy 5mt, fresh oil change and new banjo bolt with less than 1000 miles. Car is bone stock. Recently started making noise at 3800-4200 rpm, sounds like a clacking as if the turbo is about to let go or terrible knocking you can very obviously feel through the shifter. I'd think it's a throwout bearing or turbo problem but the noise goes away after 4200 rpm so my understanding was that if it was one of those things it would get worse the higher you rev not disappear. Any ideas?

stangbanger95
There's no heat shield on the turbo, previous owner trashed it. seems like a bad throwout bearing/bad turbo but again the noise and extreme vibration wouldnt vanish the higher i rev.. Possible ignition problem? no CEL

stangbanger95
sounds completely normal everywhere except 3800-4200 rpm where it wants to shake itself apart, i can't figure it out.

stangbanger95
Thanks for the replys, turns out its the first and second gear bearings inside the trans, changing the fluid helped slightly but until i find a new 5mt just going to have to drive nicely.
