LegacyKid5
Alright, I finally got just about everything for my suspension upgrade and I'm off school for the next month and trying to do the install this week whenever I'm not working. So with that, I have a few clarifying questions about the install before I get started. I've searched for answers and read through the walk through for the koni install, so these are just the remaining unanswered questions I'm looking to get answered. Just so everyone knows, I'll be using koni struts front and rear with swift wagon specific springs. So here are my questions: 1. I was told by the member who I bought the springs from to be careful not to over trim the bump stop, as he thought he did so and it felt like they bottomed out. My understanding was that you do not need or want to trim the bump stops at all, correct? 2. I'm wanting to use a pipe cutter to cut the strut body to get the straightest line, what size pipe cutter will I need? 3. I read through the Koni Shock/Strut & Epic Spring install, and just wanted to clarify; I need to measure and cut off 40mm of the strut body? And what is the reason for marking the Koni Strut at 46mm? 4. My car has all stock suspension pieces and has 82k miles on it currently, obviously it varies with each car, but should I plan on replacing OEM front top mount? Hope these questions weren't answered elsewhere, I did my best to search! Thanks in advance.
compsurge
1. you do not need or want to trim the bump stops at all Correct. 2. Get the one that fits the front strut. I got a Brasscraft T005 at Home Depot. It should be adjustable from 5/8" to 2-1/8". It works great. I just used it again to cut some conduit and pvc today as part of a camera crane project. Definitely a useful tool for the future. 3. Just line up the roller part of the previously mentioned pipe cutter with the top cap of the OEM strut and cut. It will be the right length. 4. I'd do it. Also get new top spring perches.
LegacyKid5
Thanks for the response! Just a few other questions I forgot to ask originally... So I've been doing a little research on whether or not bushings need to be replaced and if so which ones, but I've gotten very mixed reviews on whether or not it's necessary and worthwhile at this point. It seems pretty common for people to upgrade the LCA bushings, use anti-lift kits, etc. So my questions is, is it worthwhile to upgrade any of these and if so, which one should I be looking at? Aracheon
The bushings in the LCA are worth upgrading, IMO. The LGT tends to track and wander a bit - replacing the "tennis ball" bushing with the KCA334 (Whiteline anti-lift kit) makes a noticeable difference. robitrice
the KCA334 kit is quality and it made a significant difference in the my car even with awfully blown coilovers. whiteline is a great product.

AZP Installs
The Whitelines have been very good for us in terms of the LCA Bushings. Cut the strut bodies as high to the caps as you can. If you cut them too short, you will need new donor strut bodies. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Dujo
^ The nubs on the konis should slide into the strut to secure it. If you cut too short they won't fit down into the strut.
GTTuner
Cut the strut up high, measure from the top of the OE cartridge retainer. You do not want that dimension too short. Better a little longer up top than less.
AZP Installs
With this said, we are floating the idea of making pre-built front koni's available for legacy gt owners. These would include brand new housings (probably KYB housings) and front Koni's already installed and ready to ship. At what price point would they be worth it? -mike

Somebody with a little more knowledge will have to speak up. But potentially ruining a front strut trying to do it myself is enough to make me look for one pre-built. AZP Installs
Yeah, the difference on our setup would be the use of new strut housings, basically brand new KYB housings will be used. Those are the prices that would make it worth our while to do the work and process everything. I'm not sure a lot of folks would take advantage of it but worth a shot. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Just the two front Konis are what, $350? Plus new housings and labor. But yeah, I'd also be interested to see what Mike at Infamous charged when he did them. Not that you have to charge the same, just for a reference.

compsurge
The rears are complete struts from Koni. Just add springs, dust boot, and tophat (and sometimes saggy butt spacers).

We will be selling the rears as well, just as stated above they are shocks/coilovers and don't require labor to put them together (except for the install into the car itself). -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts.
