Adding a cat to a midpipe: OBDI or II?

I'm looking at adding an aftermarket cat to my midpipe, which is currently catless - partly because I want to make my exhaust quieter, and partly because I don't want to be running completely catless (which I will be once I replace my uppipe).

I was looking at the Vibrant high-flow cats, and they offer both OBD1 and OBD2 cats in both metal and ceramic, e.g.:

vs.

or:

Is there any reason to get an OBD2 cat for a midpipe, given that there's no sensor there anyway? They are significantly more expensive.

It's all about emissions. If your just going for making it less noisy why don't you put in a resonator?

Also, something of note, I'm not sure how far before it effects performance, but cats work off of heat, so if there too far away from the engine/turbo, they will not work as efficiently.
