Nice Ed!!! I was seriously considering a '01-'03 Le Mans Blue E39 M5 before I pulled the trigger on a used '07 spec.B. Bought the car for East Coast use, but I realized I didn't need the car here in Philly (nowhere to park cheap around campus), so I left it at home.

Care to post any comparisons between the two?

Trust me, you cannot afford the cost of maintenance and upkeep on a used E39 M5, they are not cheap cars to take care of. I knew that going into the purchase and experiencing it firsthand!

Driving dynamics, performance and power? You know how much I spent on modding my Spec B? Even after all that, it still cannot touch the M5 in those aspects, and a hell of a lot more luxurious. But the tradeoff like I said....expensive all around. It will drain your wallet if you make it a DD, which I why I don't.

E39's are nice but go take an E60 out with no Traction control and M mode enabled... :spin:

I miss BMW driving school :(

I'm not into the E60s, never really have been. Ridden and driven them, yes the power will monster the E39 in a straight line drag race, but you know me, i'm not some schoolzone drag racing moron, I prefer a more balanced & sleeper car.

why did you gt rid of the hyundai?

Because the dealership contacted me and wanted to buy the remainder of my lease because 09 V8 sedans are in high demand as CPO cars. So I saved myself a year of lease payments and bought a car I wanted cash up front. Much cheaper insurance too.

The Genesis is a great car but not really worth buying new because the depreciation is so terrible, I will consider getting a used CPO Genesis R sedan maybe 4-5 yrs down the line when they start coming off lease and is a much better buy.

Good choice.

I wanted an E39 M5 pretty badly, but all the ones I found were absurdly expensive or had absurdly high mileage.

If I were to do it all over, I'd probably just get a regular 540i Touring and V8-ify it like Rao did.

Yeah this is my perfect window to buy an E39 M5 before they all get TOO old and while I'm still single and have the $$, otherwise the wife would probably give me BS about paying that much for a used car w that many miles.

Bingo. It's a tough sell, a car more than a decade old and near 100k. Despite their reliability, they are expensive as used-cars go.
