Despite my best efforts at maintenance (HG special - timing belt, water pump and regular avg approx 5K mile full synthetic oil changes, rear clutch packs) the bottom end of my motor blew out on my 1997 Rio Red BD GT. I was moving then felt a loss of power then that metal on metal sound that everyone dreads. My parents refused to have a junk car sitting around so I am not able to part it out but my mechanic gave me $700 for it.

This sucks since this was my favorite car I have ever had thus far.

In better days:

I wouldn't say RIP necessarily. If the body of the car is even remotely as good as those pictures, your mechanic will put in a new short block and make quite a profit off that car. The blue book ranges from $4-6k for that car from "fair" to "excellent" condition.

He will probably spend no more than $500 getting a working engine and sell it for $2,500-$3,000 profit. "Mechanics" will only "take that car off your hands" when they know there is a lot to gain.

Eh sorry to hear, that sucks. Anyways now u get to find a new car which will be fun! On a side note, getting rid of the car that way seems like a good idea to me as well, less hassle. I hate trying to sell a vehicle that's in sore shape.
