99 LGT new owner

Recommended Posts

So I just recently bought a 99 LGT 5MT and I thought I would start a thread showing my progress. The car has some dings and things to be fixed but I love it so far. It had 92,000 when I bought it. The guy who owned it before me did some "ricer" stuff I need to undo but it's a good start.

things that need to be done:

- He painted the interior trim red (Poorly painted might I add)

So for the time being, I am taking it apart, sanding it down and applying plastic primer and two coats of paint to make it look acceptable again)

- I need to replace the Turn signal switch unit (hopefully this weekend)

the brights come on whenever I turn the blinker on

- I need to re-wire the fog lights as it looks like he cut and hacked possibly to have fog lights on seperate from lights and rerouted to a funky (cheap) switch that'll I'll have to repair also

- need to strip and properly paint wheels as they were spray canned red and then spray canned black with red still showing

- Sunroof is stuck half way down on right (passenger) side but motor still works so i think I'll have to dismantal/clean/check that everything is in place.

-I have a wife and kids so upgrades will come slowly but hope to eventually swap for wrx or sti suspension and maybe eventually engine swap.

Also not a big fan of the red so I think I might paint black.

Car also came with Magnaflow exhaust with no intake so I have to decide the next steps there. It's a little louder than I like so I might look into a silencer? Maybe an intake to balance the exhaust.

- Driver side front fender needs to be replaced as well.

Not possitive yet. This is my daily driver so it needs to stay reliable but I also want to make it my toy too :icon_bigg

I'll try to post as I upgrade. My buddy might be buying his dads 97 Subaru outback wagon 2.5 so we might start feeding off each other for upgrades haha

The exhaust is a "tube" style magnaflow exhaust.... I know people will hate on me asking, but is there a why to silence the exhaust a little? or at least minimize the drone on highways? It's not whiney and it's deep which is good but I'm not a kid wanting a loud exhaust but I also kind of like the extra horse... I see that some mufflers come with silencers but don't seem to find silencers when I search Magnaflow silencer.

There is a stock red GT with black leather interior around town w/snowflake wheels and it looks awesome. It is super clean. I was contemplating leaving a note on the windshield a few months ago. "Hello, If you ever want to sell your GT..."

Good job on de-ricing such a nice ride!

Nice ride and welcome. Throwing a resonator in the exhaust will help with the drone.

Thanks for the tip. I was wondering about that last night after looking at it a little more. I don't have a welder yet (nor am I the best at welding) so I think I'm gonna take it to a local muffler shop

Yeah I really like this car. I had a Dodge Ram V10 and traded for this GT for better gas mileage and roomier back seat. Still miss my truck a little but I'm quickly falling in love with this car. Wish I had the leather though.
