Wheel Bearing?

Recommended Posts

I have a 93 subaru legacy. When I ever I turn left, I hear a suttle noise comming from somewhere around the left side of the car. When I drive on the interstate I have mild shake or vibration in the wheel. Could this be a bad wheel bearing?

hey, what does the noise sound like?

try this - jack the car up and hold the wheels at 9 and 3, push at 9, pull at 3, reverse. If there is wobble, it may be the wheel bearing. Repeat at 12 and 6. Make sure your jack stands are stable and don't push too hard - if it is the bearing you will feel the wheel tip and give when you apply pressure as if it isn't fully bolted on.

If this does not happen - no play then try turning the wheel - try turning the wheel if the wheel has trouble rotating and requires more than 10 pounds of force to turn, you may have a slightly stuck piston which might explain both the "subtle noise" and the vibration - this just happened to me.

Also, if the noise is a light "plink plink plink" and only comes during turning, it may be a CV going bad.

Lemme know how this turns out.
