What else would i have to do?

Would i have to have my keys re-synced with the car or is that another computer on-board.

Stupid ECUTek tune....

"if you send it back to us we'll fix it" ... yeah cause i can mail my ECU to England and watch my car sit for a month... that's a good fix.

I believe that the key would need to be re synced because when I had my ecu replaced under warranty, they needed both keys and remotes. Since you have an '05, if it is manual, you may be able to have your ecu replaced under warranty if out hadn't been done yet. Check this thread.

The are several other solutions to reversing the hex of The Flashed and The Furious (also known as an ecutek tune). I would try them in this order:

1) Drive to your local ecutek dealer. They are supposed to remove ecutek free of charge. Well, if their software is working that day. But really, they are supposed to wipe it clean. May not be practical for many people though due to the scarcity of ecutek dealers.

The remaining solutions all involve removing and shipping your ecu. It's NOT that big of a deal.

2) Send it to Tactrix for a bench flash/clean.

3) Send it to an ecutek dealer still in business and have them wipe it clean.

4) Send it to Cobb for a bench flash/clean.

SOA will probably NOT be able to help, as ecutek alters the handshaking protocol so that non-ecutek programs can't talk to the ecu.

Man, ecutek still pisses me off 4 years after I left it... I'm surprised there are still other victims out there.

Yes they are...

http://www.cars101.com/subaru/keyless.html#immobilizer%20keys

Unless you're referring to the 2.5i model. All GT keys are chipped.

no they are not i copied and pasted this since i don't know how to link from subaruwrxparts.com

this is the key i use unchipped.

Product Details This is the highly desirable Legacy GT key that came with the 2005 models. This key DOES NOT have a immobilizer chip in and can be used with a wide array of Subaru vehicles, see below for models it fits. The key comes un-cut but you can go to your local Subaru Dealer to have it cut, some offer free cutting services while others charge. We can cut you this key if you are local to us, come in with your vehicle and valid registration.

Fits: 2002+ Impreza, 2003+ Forester, 2000+ Legacy

*Note: 2005+ WRX STi and 2006+ WRX have an immobilizer system that uses a special key with a computer chip in it. This key will not work on those cars! For the tech savy and DIYers, you can remove your existing chip and attach it to the new key or hand it on your keychain. SubaruWRXparts.com does not endorse, nor recommends, this process and takes no liability if you perform this action.

What kind of car do you have?

I have read here of more than a few folks having issues getting their cars to start when they get a new ECU and forget to bring their keys along to get them reprogrammed.

Can you explain?

Sorry, I'm not trying to be an ass. I'm just trying to reconcile this obvious contradiction.

You should have an immobilizer. Did you buy the car second hand or something? Maybe someone messed with things.

edit: Hmm, hang on. Here's another link:

Guess you're not supposed to have it.
