burnout8488
Is there a procedure specified for retorquing head bolts? I've got 103,000mi and have noticed a VERY small seepage of oil coming out of them. I don't plan on replacing them as its extremely minor - its not even close to leaking on the ground yet. I've seen with other cars that there is a procedure to retorque the heads after a certain amount of miles. Should I just retorque to factory specs as listed in the FSM? Sometimes its different if the head bolts have not been removed, I just want to make sure.
Osei
Never heard of a retorque procedure for these engines. Mileage? Perhaps its time to replace the HGs. Can't think of any reason why retorquing should hurt, unless the gaskets are going bad. O.
GTTuner
How can you see the head bolts leaking? They are under the valve cover. You must mean the head gasket? If they are leaking oil you need head gaskets.
Max Capacity
Or do you mean the valve cover bolts are leaking ? If so just snug them up. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Yamarocket630
Head bolts are torque to yield and cannot be retorqued as such. +1 on you probably saw seepage from the valve covers
burnout8488
Sorry, I forgot to specify. There is a VERY small seepage coming out of the headgaskets, only on the bottom of the engine. Valve cover gaskets, tube seals, and bolt gaskets are fine. I wasn't sure if the head gaskets were TTY bolts or not. Thanks for the info guys
