aguyinthesky
So im doing a boost build which will leave the lgt catless. Im movin to CO at the end of december and my buddy im meeting there told me about the emission laws that i hv to pass every two years to prop insure my vehicle. Is it possibe to pass with a proper tune? Any CO inhabitants able to shed some light?
Utmost
He is correct. If you live anywhere except the FAR out boonies, emission test every 2 years. And from my understanding, few aftermarket pipes *with* cats pass emissions, so you'll end up swapping out the OEM to pass...
Aracheon
You'll have to put a cat of some sort back in in order to pass. A couple gallons of E85 in the tank certainly doesn't hurt, either.
aguyinthesky
I heard its actually really hard to fail te emissions test? Do they do a tailpipe hookup? Or how is the method in co?
Lucid
They do the tailpipe test, take ODBII connection data, and do a visual inspection. They sometimes use mirrors for the visual. There is a long "failed emissions" thread on awdpirates.net, which will give you details on what has and hasn't worked for others in Colorado with modified Subarus. bigjweb
I can say for a fact 100% that an Invidia catted downpipe (on a fifth gen turbo) will not pass in colorado. When i bought my 05 it was set-up for stage 2. It would not pass after I bought it so the ford dealer sent it over to subaru. They told ford that it needed a replacement DP because the one that was on there was not oem (the invidia pipe). Long story short, Ford sent it over to a muffler shop and they welded a huge second cat below the one on the DP.
