Question about the chrome trim ring around the shifter (5EAT)

How and what tools do I need to pull this ring out? I need to put some foams between the ring and the center console to kill the damn rattles.

Credit card; snaps out.

 

Can't imagine that piece rattling much, however, unless it's already busted (one of the clips/prongs broken off)

I had a rattling sound from there. pulled it up and put down some foam inserts. sound is gone.

I think it's because they just only put part the foam between the ring and console when assembling the car.

 

I can't feel any form under the right hand side of the chrome trim ring, and the console already shows some wears becuase of the edge of the ring.

get foam or felt sticky inserts from home depot or local hardware shop. as thin as possible.

I used friction tape. provided a nice sticky surface and was thin so the ring can still fit flush to the console.
