Steering Rack -- best price for new one that has decent quailty (LGT 05)?

Dealers seem to want $600-$700. Parts places have for $300 or so. I'm concerned about quality. I track the car sometimes and just want to make sure I'm not getting cheap junk. Anyone know of a good replacement that is reasonably priced?

I was wondering this too. Gates has a rebuild kit with new seals and you can get new tie rod boots from Subaru. Is your stock rack salvageable?

It's just the valve that's leaking I think, but I don't want to mess with "repairing" the rack or risk doing all that work and still having a problem. Of course if I have to pay $700 then maybe "repairing" it would be worth it. Talked to Subaru and they said they might be able to get rebuilt one...will have to see where they get theirs.

I need a new steering rack and was considering getting it from subaru until the parts guy at my job. I work at a nissan dealership said to just go with a napa one which cost $100.

I just put a reman rack in my 1996 Outback. Got it from RockAuto.com. Rack looked identical to OEM (which I expect it was). $150 + $125 core charge (which I got back).

Good online transaction ... Can't tell any difference from my original rack.

 

Subaru wanted $900 for the rack ... Hell no!
