boostedsubbygt
So this is the second oil change that my car can't make it to without a quart or 2 addin before the shop. Is this strange to LGT or the norm. I have about 108645 miles on it and live in the washington dc area so traffic is a beast especially with a 5 speed. Any advice or warning to look out for. Oh yea it's a 2006

Gex
Or a blown turbo... Or a badly clogged pcv(reaching here). With no further info and e-diagnostic. Drop down pipe check turbo, check half moon seals oil lines etc..., if good compression and leak down test. 1-2 quarts is not normal.
boostedsubbygt
No smoke at all but it still gets boost fine. Would it still be able to do that with a blown turbo. I hate going to the dealer but looks like I don't have a choice to save my car.

Have a plan in place to replace the engine if/when it comes time. The turbos last about 120,000 miles. It's a good idea to plan on replacing it sometime around then. lee07
Normal, unless you're adding 4 quarts between oil changes, then you got issues, but 1-2 is normal. I add about 1 1/2 between changes. Just drive it and check it every 1000 miles
Redryan98
What kind of oil are you using? Try rotella t6 if you're not using it already. If you have "normal" consumption it might help a little. If it's being caused by something that is want or broken you'll have to investigate further.

boostedsubbygt
So subaru says it's a valve cover leak that could be my problem with the oil consimtion. Whew and wants to charge 825 to fix. It's 500 to order a new car I wonder if I should pop smoke and go for a new ride. The new legacy looks ok or the rare to find wrx
c-lo
since you switched are you still having oil consumption issues? how bad is it now? do I trust dealers? no. if it were me would I get a second opinion from a subie specialist that doesn't work at a dealership? yes 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
boostedsubbygt
No problem since switched oil. I was due for a oil change and they told me at subaru what they found. They put in subaru oil so I'll have to check it till it runs low then I'll put more high milage again.
boostedsubbygt
I agree with the dealership. Plus 1125 for front struts leaking it's insane along with the 825 valve cover. Somethings strange
Moderators BarManBean Posted August 12, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 12, 2014 You're in the DC area? Where, exactly? I'm down in Springfield. Oil consumption could certainly be a VCG, but with your mileage I would also suspect PCV or turbo seals as well. As others mentioned could also be ringland issues. Lots of folks in the area that do work on the side, just FYI! "Bullet-proof" your OEM TMIC! <<Buy your kit here>> Not currently in stock
boostedsubbygt
Ya I'm in the DC area close to Annapolis. Hey if you could point me in the right direction it would help. I just moved here and the dealer has been my only mechanic.
