Feal Suspension coilovers

INVNO1

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I wanted to share some new info with everyone about Feal Suspension. Just a bit a back info first though. I just recently sold my 05 WRX wagon and a few weeks later I picked up an 06 OBXT. A good friend of mine, Allen, owns a performance shop in Kalamazoo, MI called Strictly Import Motorsports. One of my first complaints(obviously) with the Outback was the height. I knew going into getting the outback that I would have to get something right after I got the car to get it down to my liking! So, with the brands that were out there I was looking at either the BCs or the ISCs. After a long talk with Allen he was very FIRM that I needed to get the Feal coilovers. I told him I had already looked into it but they didn't make anything for the Legacy platform. He told me to hang on a minute while he calls them. After about a 10 minute conversation he tells me "Give me money! They are building you the VERY first set!" And now we come to this point. Feal Suspension NOW offers fullbody coilovers for the 05-09 Legacy platform! Prices will be standard I believe which is $1350. Every set is built to order so that means YOU pick out the spring rates and any custom valving. Camber plates for the front with pillowball mounts. JDM Swift brand springs!! 30 way adjustable. Everything is assembled here in the U.S. and ALL servicing is done here as well!

I will post more after I install them and get them adjusted the way I want. BTW this is not a sales pitch or even a full review yet. I am just letting everyone know there is a new option out there for coilovers.

IIRC, Feal uses the same manufacturer is ISC, so i doubt the valving is any better quality, regardless of it being custom. At least swift springs are being used here as they are a quality brand. I would not expect much more from these than any of the other coilovers of the similar price point. If you like them though, good.

What's wrong with just saying "price"? What additional information is conveyed by saying "price point"? Sorry for being cranky, but, in my job (technical writer), I fight a never ending battle against jargon and business speak.

awesome. can you furnish some info as in the specs and spring rates you went with? also, will any extra modification be needed to make these work on your car? lastly, what's the part number for these coilovers from FEAL for the OBXT since I also have an 05 OBXT and would like to have these for reference when i get mine shortly. Thanks again.

Wow, those are cool Feal stickers. As whitetiger said all these units are rebranded versions of the BC/ISC/Fortune/etc. Heck I get an e-mail about 1x a week from suppliers in China asking me if I want to have custom coils to sell under my company name!

I've posted about how some of these "adjustable" coils actually don't adjust despite having a very trick knob to change said adjustments. Also when purchasing coils you want to make sure that the shock dyno results on them are all very close otherwise you will have different dampening rates even if the knobs are in the same spot. Coils like AST and KW and RCE have much better shock dyno results and are more importantly more consistent from shock to shock.

I don't understand why people want coil overs on street/non dedicated race cars. Struts springs and sways are more then enough for the typical Daily commute.

Of your DD'ing that through the winters I would suggest another option.

We are a big proponent of this. Whenever we have a customer come in who wants coils I ask them what kind of racing they do, and they look at me like i'm nuts.

i personally have springs and adjustable koni yellows on my integra but with this wagon i want something i can adjust in case of an evacuation or flood i can raise it up easier than the setup that's on my integra. If i didnt have an issue with flooding i'd go that route.

If flooding is that big of a concern for you, I wouldn't want to be farkling around trying to raise my vehicle, when getting out of harm's way is a bigger, and much more important, issue. Just saying.

However it works out, good luck with the new suspension.

People want a low riding car without out any understanding of what the trade offs are. Only education can fix that.

Hindsight can fix that too. Let em learn the hard and bumpy way. :p

If either of these are directed towards me please know that I have been using coilovers(not sleeve overs) since the late 90s. I am not a young buck by any means! LOL! I know and understand the trade-offs. I also know that all too many times when I decide to just do a spring/strut combo it never sits the way I want it to. Yeah, the ride is a bit more comfortable during daily driving but this is NOT my daily driver. It is also NOT a dedicated race car either.

All my original post was trying to do is show another option. If the shocks are the same as A, B, and C other brands then I guess they are the same. I do not see other brands using Swift springs but I could be wrong there too. IDK! I like to help support my good friend and he is a dealer for Feal.

I know nothing about drag racing, so these may be perfectly acceptable for that purpose.

As for road racing/tracking your car, anyone who is serious about tracking their car knows you want to have matched dampers on your car to extract the maximum use out of it. The issue with all these knockoffs ISC/Feal/BC/etc is that their shock dyno numbers drop off significantly after the first 1-2 hits. After that they become significantly less useful. So after doing a lap or two, you are done. These companies usually try to compensate by putting on extra stiff springs.

On the street, same issue, once you get a few hits into them the dampening drops off and you are in the same boat. The stiff springs give you a crappy street ride.

In the road-race/track world, KW and RCE are considered entry level streetable coilovers with AST and Motons being considered middle of the road to top end for club racers. Penske is considered tops for a race car.

I understand you wanting to pimp your buddy because he just got a cool account with Feal. In the end you'll wind up getting RCE or KWs if for your street driven track car. Take it from 10+ years of coaching road racing and many more tracking my cars.

I never said anything about "serious" racing. I like to have fun! I can go out to the track in a completely stock car and still have fun with it. I am not a competitive racer. I can have the slowest time of the day or the fastest time of the day. I really don't care either way just as long as I enjoyed my time out there. You make it sound like if we don't have a $3000 set of coilovers we can't enjoy ourselves at the track. Guy, I have a wife and two young kids at home. Mess with any of them and you will see me serious. Other than that I am just breezy and enjoying life. Thanks for the info though.

Oh I agree with you. I haven't driven a modded car on track in about a year and a half and I've taken many enterprise rental cars to the track.

I'm saying if you are going through the effort to "Push" a coilover or put a coilover on your car, do it right and don't put on coilovers that make your handling WORSE than stock.

If you've been around the track, you should know that a bad aftermarket system is often worse than stock.
