Wanted some kickpods to help with my staging.. no one makes them for our cars so I started to fab some up..

Half molds out and ready to connect to the factory panels..

should be fine, my main concern was the staging of the vocals.. with the pods it should be fine.. the tweets in the factory location give decent staging..

ive got an audiocontrol eqs ive still got to hook up.. the x-overs that came with this comp set have a slot for imaging tweets if i wanted to add a set later on..

the tweeters image better when they're close to the mids. look for threads started by 'msmith' - that's Manville from JL Audio. His build is documented and he experimented quite a bit. I did as well on my own build and the tweeters up high didn't do it for me.

just curious.. what color wires are the speakers? tried to find a diagram with no luck.. was going to tap into the wiring before it made it to the door but had no clue which wire is which.. was trying to research before i just started messing around with the dmm to find the right ones

Just run new wire through the loom and into the door. It isn't that bad. And if you want the tweets up high the stock location is just about the worst place to put them. The A-pillars would be a much better choice and it appears you have the fabrication skills to pull it off. You spent time equalizing the pathlength on the woofers and now you're going to muff it all up putting the tweeters in the stock locations?

its all test and tune.. some component sets sound better with tweeters in different locations.. that and ive got a lot of tuning to do with my EQ

all new wiring will be run but i need to tap the stock wiring to go into the input of the audiocontrol.. after that its RCAs to a comp amp then out with new wiring

Gotcha on the oem wiring tap for the processor, but I still don't think you should rely on processing to overcome poor speaker placement. Tweeter placement is going to determine most of your spatial queues.

General rules of thumb for placement (IMO): Place them as wide as you can, place them as far in front of you as you can, place them as high up as you can and place them as close as possible to partnering midrange drivers. Obviously you can't satisfy all the criteria so you must compromise. There is one obvious choice for your tweeters based on where you decided to mount your mids. I would personally start off with the tweeters in the kicks as it makes the most sense. By mounting them in the stock location you create possible and likely phasing problems (being so far away from the kickpanel mounted mids) and pathlength difference problems.

i see what your saying, ill just have to get some tape and tape the tweets to some different areas of the car until i hit the sweet spot :p .. kicks, upper a-pillar, lower a-pillar, and stock location

started to flush mount..

btw, anyone know about the wiring? didn't feel like pulling the door panels off to find out lol

Next year I'll be doing another set.. this was my first set and they came out alright. I'm going to mount the tweets in the A-pillars but I may go a different route next year.

I'm thinking about putting the Mids in the doors and running a 1" Silk dome tweet and a 2" Mid/Tweet in a kickpod.. I'm not set on that yet but I'd like to run a 3-way

Heres a few more pics since everyone is waiting lol.. I'll try and get a pic of the left pod with the speaker in it tomorrow.

16psi.. hows the staging? looks good but seems like the drivers side is off axis a bit.. of course mine are too but i was just curious

im going to throw up some idea and figure out what im going to do next.. might be better off getting a new set of kick panels.. but from who :p

if anyone is interest in this pods lmk.. maybe we can work something.. these are my first set so they are not the best.. but next one will be way better now i have this under my belt :)
