frkkevin
Wanted some kickpods to help with my staging.. no one makes them for our cars so I started to fab some up.. Half molds out and ready to connect to the factory panels.. http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/10/28920284019.jpg building the form.. http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/10/28920284313.jpg one wrapped.. http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/10/28920284329.jpg both wrapped and one partially glassed http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/10/28920284382.jpg a test fit of one.. http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/10/28920284443.jpg almost done glassing.. http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/10/28920284442.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/10/28920284435.jpg glass work done.. http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/10/28920284432.jpg ... now the pain of sanding to come.. have not decided on if im going to wrap them or paint them 512whp/465ftlb 2005 5EAT Legacy (Build Log) Videos - -

frkkevin
thats why i was swaying to wrapped.. i actually wanted to do white suede then do my inserts the same.. but being kickpods they would get dirty easy.. but suede does clean easy .. hmm 512whp/465ftlb 2005 5EAT Legacy (Build Log) Videos - -

PGT
mid only in the kick?? where's the tweeter? also....what size mids?
frkkevin
6.5" .. tweets will go in factory location on the doors.. depends on the speakers you run.. some perfer 4" from the mid.. other sets do better higher up on the A-pillar or top of the door 512whp/465ftlb 2005 5EAT Legacy (Build Log) Videos - -
PGT
are you serious? a midbass in the kick and the tweeter up high? good luck with that!! <---- would do a 4" and tweet in the kick and leave the six in the door for mo better imaging
frkkevin
should be fine, my main concern was the staging of the vocals.. with the pods it should be fine.. the tweets in the factory location give decent staging.. ive got an audiocontrol eqs ive still got to hook up.. the x-overs that came with this comp set have a slot for imaging tweets if i wanted to add a set later on.. 512whp/465ftlb 2005 5EAT Legacy (Build Log) Videos - -
PGT
the tweeters image better when they're close to the mids. look for threads started by 'msmith' - that's Manville from JL Audio. His build is documented and he experimented quite a bit. I did as well on my own build and the tweeters up high didn't do it for me.
frkkevin
just curious.. what color wires are the speakers? tried to find a diagram with no luck.. was going to tap into the wiring before it made it to the door but had no clue which wire is which.. was trying to research before i just started messing around with the dmm to find the right ones 512whp/465ftlb 2005 5EAT Legacy (Build Log) Videos - -
biz77
Just run new wire through the loom and into the door. It isn't that bad. And if you want the tweets up high the stock location is just about the worst place to put them. The A-pillars would be a much better choice and it appears you have the fabrication skills to pull it off. You spent time equalizing the pathlength on the woofers and now you're going to muff it all up putting the tweeters in the stock locations? frkkevin
its all test and tune.. some component sets sound better with tweeters in different locations.. that and ive got a lot of tuning to do with my EQ all new wiring will be run but i need to tap the stock wiring to go into the input of the audiocontrol.. after that its RCAs to a comp amp then out with new wiring 512whp/465ftlb 2005 5EAT Legacy (Build Log) Videos - -

Tweeter placement is going to determine most of your spatial queues. General rules of thumb for placement (IMO): Place them as wide as you can, place them as far in front of you as you can, place them as high up as you can and place them as close as possible to partnering midrange drivers. Obviously you can't satisfy all the criteria so you must compromise. There is one obvious choice for your tweeters based on where you decided to mount your mids. I would personally start off with the tweeters in the kicks as it makes the most sense. By mounting them in the stock location you create possible and likely phasing problems (being so far away from the kickpanel mounted mids) and pathlength difference problems. frkkevin
i see what your saying, ill just have to get some tape and tape the tweets to some different areas of the car until i hit the sweet spot .. kicks, upper a-pillar, lower a-pillar, and stock location started to flush mount.. http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/10/29523034016.jpg btw, anyone know about the wiring? didn't feel like pulling the door panels off to find out lol 512whp/465ftlb 2005 5EAT Legacy (Build Log) Videos - -

16psibrick
looks good the only thing i would change is to mold out the floor mold a bit more, so you get more internal air space and a more blended look where is how i did mine: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?showtopic=45993&view=findpost&p=598922 posts 11 and
frkkevin
Next year I'll be doing another set.. this was my first set and they came out alright. I'm going to mount the tweets in the A-pillars but I may go a different route next year. I'm thinking about putting the Mids in the doors and running a 1" Silk dome tweet and a 2" Mid/Tweet in a kickpod.. I'm not set on that yet but I'd like to run a 3-way Heres a few more pics since everyone is waiting lol.. I'll try and get a pic of the left pod with the speaker in it tomorrow. http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/11/31719340330.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/11/31719340372.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/11/31719330169.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/11/31719340373.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/11/31719340236.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/11/31719340219.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/11/31719340272.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/11/31719340274.jpg 512whp/465ftlb 2005 5EAT Legacy (Build Log) Videos - -

16psibrick
stage is okay, the legacy isnt exactly the best interior for kicks: relatively short foot wells, large expanding center consoles and a relatively low dash... IMO if you want super height in the Legacy, you probably would need to go A pilalr tweets with TA... b
