My 98 Legy GT

Recommended Posts

Well here it is. My first Legacy GT and so far I love it, even if it isn't turbo. Bought it 2 months ago and it currently has 231,200 mile son it but you couldnt tell by the way it drives. So far I have replaced the passenger front wheel bearing, buffed out the headlights, scrubbed the wheels for an hour lol, removed the hitch off it, and replaced 2 axle boots. The car already has fresh head gaskets and timing belt, however, it's leaking from the cam seals still( to be taken care of next week). That's about it for now, plan to just continue to fix any and all issues and enjoy driving it for now!

When I bought it...

Nice! Fix that rust before it gets too out of hand. The rear quarter panels are part of the unibody so you can't swap a new one on.

Well I dont know if you can tell, but I did put a coat of POR-15 over that rust spot now to at least stop it from getting worse. My Co-worker has a 98 GT wagon and his is a lot worse, a good chunk is missing out of his so I got a good idea of what could happen if I dont fix it lol.

Thanks, but sucks with the trans in your car, how many miles on your's?

Yeah, but I found a few transmission places that said they will do a rebuild and install (all new with tcc), for around $1,800.

Subaru wants 4,500!!

As well, The body has around 156,000 miles

demon, how did you do fogs yellow? I know there are a few options butj I want to se what is working best

lol, well....what you have to do is crack the top of each fog light lamp to allow water to get into them and..ta da! Obviously, that's not what I did, the fog lights are just damaged and get moisture in them, in turn, doesnt allow them to work either. I'm sure finding another set will be oh so easy ,too:rolleyes:

Lol thanks Demon :p One is halfway there in that case. I got to open it up and clean it.

I will be looking into that stain glass stuff or the yellow tint. Every check I am going to be doing something to the car until I get it back up

The previously owner( who claimed to be a Subaru expert of course) broke my fog lamps and left them be without repair. Oh wait, I mean, he tried changing the bulbs to see if they would work in water?

I would try to take them apart but I dont want to break them anymore than they already are...so we'll what happens. The yellow tint idea is a good one ,tho.

That's one of the best 2nd gen colors! It looks great!

But I hate to say it, POR15 won't stop that rust. It rusts from the inside out, it'll keep right on going until you cut the rust out.

Yea I just trying to slow it down per say til I can address the body work that needs done. SO far I've done Passenger front wheel bearing, 2 axle boots, 4 cam seals and 1 crank seal. Along with some misc things so far...when I get back from vacation I'm going to address the brakes then it should be ready for everyday use.

Rust in the same dang spot as mine had it. Had one friend of a friend do body work and totally screwed up the paint job...im talking bad bad like half looked matte black and half looked polished. Supposedly his friend fixed the rust with a piece of metal worked in there but im starting to see it bubbling on the surface already after a new body guy did new paint. What a pain in the arse

Nice car. I've got the same exact one, same rust spot aswell. I've done everything from the wheel bearings, hubs, head gaskets and all those goodies that go along. Best looking body stlye and nicest color imo.
