They would. Vacations are great for working on Subies...

Although - Ill have to ask - do you already have your low beams converted?

yeah, took about 20 minutes to install the lowbeam HIDs. After having them on my Legacy, I'll never have a car without HIDs! I was talking to someone on subaruoutback.org about HID's in the fogs, and its probably not a great idea for the outbacks, since our fogs have reflectors instead of projectors. but im still curious, and as cheap as HIDs are these days it might be worth a try.

and as far as my statement about vacation pics, im looking for them. i couldn't find a working link to the vacation pics that i need. the only thing i could find was on a parts site....

KEY:1) Fog lamp assy Right 2) Lens Right 3) Cap Back 4) Spacer Back 5) Bracket Right 6) Nut Back 7) Clip Back 8) Fog lamp bulb Back 9) Socket Back

so back to my questions...

- is the lens glass or plastic?

- is the reflector metal or plastic?

- IF i wanted to just test out the light pattern from a HID bulb, would anything even need modified to accept the wires (like with the lowbeam HID install) , or do you think it would just be plug and play?

It's all plastic. But if you keep the wattage down to the stock number, I cant see that it's an issue.

And that exhausts my knowledge. I'd ASSUME it would be as PnP as your low beams were, but KNOW nothing... Who's your vendor?

If I were doing this, though, I'd be rewiring to allow the fogs to come on independently of the headlights, and not going above 3000K - firm believer that yelowish is best for fogs.

yeah i was thinking of 35w 3000k. I've ordered a few kits from Crucial Racing before, and have been very happy. But as I'm not sure if I will be keeping the HID's in the fogs, i was thinking of going with Xenon Expert - they have Ultrafires on sale for $70.

btw... i've already disabled my DRL's for the lowbeam HID conversion, and I've also done the independent fog light mod.

  • 2 weeks later...

HID's from DDM Tuning are in! Took about 15 minutes for each side. Everything was completely plug and play. I actually did the install in my parking garage at work... the damn poppits underneath were the worst part!
