Flat4
Recently my car suffered a hit and run and got a pretty good sized dent in the rear bumper. My insurance deductible is way to high to be worth paying. I've heard of people popping out dents with a heat gun. I've also heard of people using a hair dryer and CO2. I'm kind of afraid the dent might be too big though. Any thoughts? http://i734.photobucket.com/albums/ww346/Lowcivic619/53ca137b.jpg http://i734.photobucket.com/albums/ww346/Lowcivic619/6d3f14c2.jpg
underground000
if you have a garage, use a hear dryer to heat up the dent and try pushing from the inside. if you cannot access with the bumper on the car, try taking it off thats my opinion, i dont have experience w/ body work 5eat downshift rev match:) Powder coated wheels: completed:)
galantnole
You'll have to take the bumper off most-to-all bumpers require the removal of tail-lights and trunk carpet molding to get to all of the screws. Once off, take the bumper inside and place on a cushioned carpet, heat with hair dryer moving in circles, do NOT keep it in one place - then with either a baseball bat or something similar, wrap a towel around the end and put pressure to pop out CAREFULLY! i do not take responsibility for the end results - this is the method I have used for my rear bumper and worked for me, but may not work for you -
Flat4
Thanks for the advice guys. I was looking through the vacation pics and found instructions on how to remove the rear bumper so I will most likely try your method galanthole. mattg
You might be able to make it better, but it won't be perfect. That would be replaced if a body shop was to do an insurance repair.
Flat4
The dent is extremely noticable in the daylight. As long as I can make it not as noticable I'll be happy. It doesn't have to be perfect. I'm going to attempt to fix it this weekend. I'll post pics of what the end result is.
No DRFT
Yep, use a heat gun and take your time. I have no control over drippie.
Flat4
I took the rear bumper off late Friday night. Took a blow dryer to it and some muscle, this is what I came up with. http://i734.photobucket.com/albums/ww346/Lowcivic619/a47ef94c.jpg http://i734.photobucket.com/albums/ww346/Lowcivic619/49dcf8b3.jpg It's barely noticeable. I was relieved at how easy it was to fix it.

galantnole
Absolutely great work - glad it turned out so well. Rear bumper cover corner dents are the most common; it's amazing what people will spend to remove them or replace when all they have to do is spend a couple man hours on removing, fixing, putting back on. Again, great job there.

el5y
man I'm a little late I see but I was going to reiterate what everyone else said, heat gun or blow dryer, take your time and it will be hard to tell. I helped one of my friends do this with a loaner car while his car was in the shop and someone clipped the bumper in a parking lot. looks great! iNVAR
Nice! Is it still slightly dented? Or is it paint discoloration that gives it away?
Flat4
Very, very slight dent. The paint shows no sign of the damage, I don't know why the paint looks faded in that pic. Probably has something to do with my crappy Iphone camera. Unless I tell them the car was hit there, most people wouldn't even notice.
