Review: Ebay Catback Exhaust (X02 Racing) and Cobb DP on an 07 Legacy Spec.B

Ok folks. The wait is over! I've installed the XO2 Racing exhaust with the Cobb DP on my 07 Legacy Spec.B. I had the two professionally installed by Garage Tuning in Orange (http://www.garagetuning.com). They did a fabulous job for 90 bux, and the people are cool as hell. I would highly recommend them.

Anyways, two words for the exhaust: Totally Bitchin'!

The exhaust is great. Its welds are great, and the bends are smooth. It's solidly constructed, and everything fit perfectly.

The exhaust sounds awesome! It has a nice deep prrr. It's quiet when you're taking it easy on the exhaust, and lights up when you get up on it. Nice popping when you decelerate. There is a little more cabin noise, but it's not obnoxious. With the radio up, you don't even notice it. Cruising is very smooth, and again not very loud. Absolutely outstanding, I'm very happy, especially at the cost of 1000 bux for the exhaust and DP combo.

Performance wise, there's definite difference. The throttle is much more responsive, and the trade mark hesitation at 4-5k is almost completely gone. You feel it kick, but there's not hesitation, just a nice kick in the pants!

I can't wait for Cobb to release their AP for the 07 Legacy. I believe it will make this bitch SCREAM :-D

Anyways, I'll be posting a video of the exhaust soon. I need to get a camera man, anyone in OC interested?

Final word, this is a great combination for nice price. I give it two thumbs up.

That looks great. just two suggestions that I would have considered.

1. bend or otherwise modify the muffler hangers to make sure the tips fit into the cutouts snugly, but not touching the plastic, and even from side to side. One of my car's tips is currently fitted very nicely, the other is noticeably lower... Yours looks low on the passenger side, as well. Seems like a common problem.

2: I'd have had either the Down-pipe or the mid-pipe piece extended, and the other corresponding part shortened, to get rid of the 2.5inch neck-down at that joint. Both have the neck-down to mate to the front or rear sections of the stock exhaust via the "donut flange".

I'd have just had an exhaust welder professional cut the flanges off both pieces, back to the 3" full diameter part of the pipe, and extend one side to meet the other to take up the removed inches, and weld on full-3" flanges, and bolt it back together with an appropriate gasget. One could even use that space to put in a 3" flex joint or something, to further quell mechanical vibrations in the pipework.

It really does looks great, and I am sure it is a huge improvement over stock. I am very much looking forward to hearing it... It is very similar to what I would like to do to my car, although I am not sure I'll be able to afford to do both DP and cat-back at the same time.

My big question for the video/audio evidence to answer, is how loud is it at cruising speed... I know you describe it as easily dismissed, and I'll bet it is quieter than mine at 70mph. Mine sounds like a large shop-vac running in the trunk, with the staccato of the boxer rumble thrown in... and you have to raise your voice over it. Sounds mean definitely, but it makes your skull vibrate after a while... I think I drive a lot longer distances at higher speeds than the previous owner, and at 45-60mph it isn't as bad. 65-70mph, and it gets louder. 150 miles of that... and you want to get out of the car presently. The few times my wife drives the car, and I am on the outside, I know it is twice as loud outside the car as inside.

I am currently debating whether to shoot for this X02/ebay CBE, and potentially having to quiet it a bit more by having a resonator installed in the mid-pipe, or getting a known quiet exhaust, like the Greddy SP2, and having the tips changed to fit the sedan's shorter bumpers, and look like these tips... it would probably end up costing about the same, and about 650-700$. Doesn't leave much $$$ for a simultaneous catted downpipe like that nice Cobb piece, but someday...

BTW, more aspect pics of how the tips and mufflers look from rear and side would be welcome. I like the pics I have seen so far, but more always helps. :D

Thanks for the suggestions, it's not as bad as it looks, it's just the angle.

I'll take # 2 under advisement.

As far as cruising, it's hardly noticeable. I rode in the car with the owner of Garage Tuning, and we didn't have to raise our voices at all while chatting.

I'll try to get the exhaust video uploaded tomorrow, I'm going to see if I can have someone at work record the video for me.

Is this available without the 2.5inch neckdown? That is the only thing keeping me from getting this, as it will be a bottleneck with my Invidia 3 inch downpipe's flange:(

With this setup can you still use the stock resonator if its too loud? Hey Bmorrisj "see if you can hook a brotha up":icon_bigg

It would have to be welded in, because that section othe pipe is 3". It would be best to by a straight thru glasspack style resonator. Summit has 3" one that is a foot long for $19.99 or a foot and a half for $29.99.
