AAPOQ
Well to start I have a descent JVC 50wx4 head unit and I want to upgrade the speakers now.. I'm looking for the sound guru's that have maybe played around with different speaker brands. And also wondering what I should do about tweeters in the doors? What fits close enough that will only have to be mildly modified? Components up front? I would like heavier bass in the back highs and mids up front. I'm not putting in an amp/subs. I just want nice sound with my head unit, and I'm leaning toward Hertz brand speakers. Thanks for any and all help!!
pleaidestar
My personal favorites for speakers are Kenwood and polk audio. The Kenwood flush mounts can't be beat in the front doors. I'll get a link or two of the speakers I had used in there so you can check them out. I thought the stereo/speaker setup I had was pretty good without subs, the 50x4 soundstream unit, was very loud and had a good thump to the bass. In my bd I used 6.5 three way Kenwood carbon cones in the rear deck, the front doors had 6.5 two ways since I had the same line of tweeters that are in the doors and deck. I was getting ready to wire in rear door speakers with the same 3 way kenwoods that were in the deck. I would have needed to put in a small amp with those extra speakers maybe. But it sounded great without getting to crazy. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1131695PS/Kenwood-KFC-1695PS.html?tp=95 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KFCP709/Kenwood-KFC-P709PS.html http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113ST01/Kenwood-KFC-ST01.html?tp=107 What's cool about those tweeters is that they snap in perfectly with the oem keeper and speaker screen. You can even see the tweeter through the screen.
AAPOQ
Thanks for the info, there isn't a lot about 2nd gen leggys out there. I've been researching for days and got tired of getting nowhere on the internet. So I broke down and actually went to best buy and bought these http://www.crutchfield.com/p_108P6500CS/Infinity-Primus-PR6500cs.html?tp=106 They have pretty good reviews and the tweeters fit great! I do agree with you tho, I like kenwoods. Alpines are pretty descent as well. I'm tired of pioneer speakers and headunits. The quality has gone to shit. Someday I'll get to try Hertz, I've heard some great things about quality of sound, durability and price.. Something else I realized, electronic stores quit stocking huge amounts of car audio equipment. car audio has really gone the wayside
twisty
its hard to stock a bunch of brands and sizes, too expensive. i love good speakers, but im poor so i have decent pioneers in the back and stock in the front still. in my truck im still rockin an old set of memphis in the front and some decent kicker components in the back. grovlet
For Head-Unit Brand - I prefer Kenwood (Been using them since 95 or so...) For Speakers - Lower end I like Infinity (Kappa Series is a good balance of price vs. performance) For Speakers - Higher end - I had good luck with Boston Acoustics stuff back in the day - although I haven't used there newer stuff to comment on it as much. As the OP is asking about speakers - I would suggest the Infinity Reference Series as a starting point and if price allows jump up to the Kappas
