dspurgin22
Well, wasn't exactly planning on joining the LGT crew anytime soon, but an opportunity arose, and here I am, and super stoked with how things have turned out in the end. The car started out as my brothers in the spring. A reconstructed, pieced together, 2005 SWP Limited Legacy GT 5MT. Already being in the Subaru crowd with my '04 WRX I of course pushed for him to get the car, but boy did s#$t hit the fan with this thing. Only after a short 2 weeks did he run into issues. Needed a new timing belt, thermostat, and water pump. After that unexpected repair and after a new set of tires, he headed down to school in California. (I am at school at school 3k miles away, so still hadn't seen the car at this point) 30 miles from school, he hears a loud clunk and then the car dies. Later to find out that the amount of damage done to the car is enough to impress any tuner. The previous owners had taken AWFUL care of the car before my brother purchased it. Ran it low on oil multiple times, and later found out they had been running regular unleaded for the majority of the time the owned it. The damage was done as seen in the clusterfawk of an engine block.... None of these pictures were staged. This is exactly how it looked when they pulled the motor out. Yeah, not exactly rebuild material.
dspurgin22
But good news is the appearance of the car is flawless! Interior and exterior are in amazing condition. This is how it looked day 1 when it went from his hands to mine...
dspurgin22
I knew I was going to do a rebuild, but if its broke, upgrade. Right? So thanks to PRE of Portland this lil guy was put together: Engine '05 STi Short Block '05 STi Heads '11 STi Water Pump Gates Racing Timing Belt NGK Plugs ARP Head Studs 18G Tomioka Turbo Deatschwerks 740cc Injectors 265 LPH Fuel Pump Catless Invidia DP Catless Invidia UP Perrin Top Mount Intercooler Perrin Short Ram Intake TGV Deletes Perrin Heat Shield ...and a few little extras here and there, was in the little of scrubbing the whole engine down when I took the picture. dspurgin22
The car was left at the shop for the full power tune, between the completion of the rebuild the exterior has changed just a bit also. Will have pictures up as soon as its back

valkrie hunter
i thought they were all unleaded? O.o but would the difference between premium and regular do that much damage? and 6 speed swap while you're upgrading everything?
Drift Motion
Guessing the front end has been replaced? Or at least the headlights are not 05... but looks like a clean, fun to drive car!
dspurgin22
oops! Meant regular unleaded, they were not running premium for the majority of the time the owned it. My guy at the shop said that over time the gas will do some damage, but it was more of a combination of hard driving, running it low on oil, and the using the wrong type of gas so often that did the engine in. We were just unlucky enough to be the ones in possession when it blew.

dspurgin22
I personally like the 06's over the 05's. Looks a bit more clean with the white I think. But I need to get some real pictures up soon. Hopefully Thursday will be the day for a little photo shoot if weather permits...
