using stock subwoofer connector for aftermarket amp/subwoofer?

I'm going to install a subwoofer and amp in my 2006 LGT with factory nav. I don't have a subie subwoofer, but I was thinking if the wiring is under the seat for a stock subwoofer, can I just track that down and tap into the speaker signal and amp turnon? Then I'll just have to run a hot wire from the battery.

If this is doable, where would I find that connector? Under the driver seat? (I think the nav box is there now).

Thanks for any ideas.

The sub harness is not pre-installed. It won't be there unless a sub had been added at some point. Since the nav control unit is under the driver's seat, the OEM sub would be under the passenger seat.

Also, prior to 2010 Legacy/Outbacks, the OEM sub T-harness does not have a wire for remote turn-on. The older OEM subs activate when they detect sound on one of the HU's speaker outputs. See this post for more info (post #4 in my 'Subaru stock HU Info' thread on NASIOC).
