metsfan999
Does anyone have this setup for a DD? I'm looking for more comfort rather than performance. I have Konis and Epics and the ride flat out sucks over bumps and such. Thuds and bouncing around all over the place. Very uncomfortable. I'm looking for anything close to stock comfort with a slightly lower stance.
Moderators BarManBean Posted September 7, 2012 Moderators Share Posted September 7, 2012 So are you saying you want to sell your Koni / epic setup? I'd be interested if they are the same part numbers for the GT. No input on the KYB struts though. scoobie2.0
Honestly, it sounds like you don't have the Koni's set correctly for the Epics. Thuds sounds like the top hat nut is not fully threaded down and the bouncing sounds like you don't have the Koni's rebound set hard enough. I just installed GR-2s on my fiancee's 08 2.5i with Rallitek springs. They're a bit harsh as the GR-2's seem underdampened for the Ralliteks, plus they have the notorious squeeking noise (relatively easy fix tho). I have stock struts with tein h-techs with over 60k on them and they even ride more comfortable.
metsfan999
AZPinstalls installed my current setup. I doubt it was done wrong.
whitetiger
they are talking about the dampening settings. have you played around with them to see if your ride improves? the GR-2s are gonna be worse if you can find a happy setting with the koni's
I Donated bucko3the7man Posted September 7, 2012 I Donated Share Posted September 7, 2012 You can adjust the ride of the konis
scoobie2.0
Did they adjust the dampening settings for you or have you touched them after the install. I'm sure they installed them correctly and figure they would've adjusted the settings for you also. Seems like something is up because everyone raves about how nice the koni/epic(eibach) setup rides. So definitely check the settings. I think 1 turn from soft is the recommended setting with epics. Not completely sure tho so search around for recommendations. As whitetiger said, going with the gr-2s will probably make things worse. But if you're dead set on swapping I'll be glad to trade you my fiancee's gr-2/rallitek setup lol. metsfan999
I have set them from all different turns from soft to firm and they all are harsh or too bouncy. Its embarrassing putting people in the car and asking when the last time I changed my shocks was.
whitetiger
put the stock springs back in then. any aftermarket spring is gonna be stiffer than stock, regardless of the shock you use.
metsfan999
Anyone want to chime in on Tein H Techs and Koni combination? Seems as if that's the closest I can get to stock while lowering the car a bit.
whitetiger
^thats about right. H-techs are comfy.
gr4v3r
i went with tein H/Konis. Comfy yet planted ride. The drop is more than advertised though, i have less than 2 finger gap.
GT_Red
KYB with Progress, are behaving just fine. I would only suggest they spray the tops of the springs with silicone, I get the squeak and clank when I turn the wheel.
legacy360
I have GR2's with Epic springs. They ride really well except it's rather stiff over rough road. Expected quite a change from stock springs to the Epic's, and the change in ride height is just enough.
