2008 Subaru Legacy 2.5i tune-up, what should be done?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys/gals,

Want to first say thanks for such a great site! I've browsed for a few hours and have found a TON of helpful hints!!!

Now to my question: Wife has a 2008 Subaru Legacy 2.5i SOHC. Nothing fancy here, she bought it new and yea, I tried, she wouldn't go with the turbo...:spin:

Anyways, she loves this damn car! And now since she hit 130K, and refuses to get rid of it, it's time for major maintenance.

Now, here's what I've already done:

- rear wheel bearings

- a/c and alt accessory belts

Here's my "to do" list for the spring:

- timing belt

-water pump

-coolant flush

- spark plugs

-ignition coil packs (dunno if they are necessary)

-struts

-strut mounts.

Hopefully you can help with some of my questions:

- I can find rear strut mounts, but can't find front ones?! I've always changed mount plates when doing struts, anyone have any part #'s or suggestions?

- A couple different timing sets available, gates is the cheapest. Any manufacturer I should stay away from for any reason?

- Any suggestions for struts? The gr-2's price is right, and she's not doing any Auto-X that I know of! LOL

- anything else I should be looking to replace or change? Still a daily driver.

I appreciate any advice you can give! Thanks!

Tranny fluid I considered.... What type of filter is it? I'm used to having to drop the pan and pull the filter that way. I think I read that this is a spin on filter?

I'm sure there's write-ups on both fluid changes! I'll do a search for sure.

At 130k miles you are VERY overdue for your timing belt. I would put that at the top of your list.

You can check our page here for the 30k service (30/60/90/120/150/etc) http://azpinstalls.com/index.php/maintenance/30k-mile-service

That's what you'll want to do at your 130k service.

On an AT you'll want to replace the AT filter if it's a spin on type which can be located on the trans body OR behind the battery in the fender well.

On the Timing Belt Kits- Gates is great we've installed 100s of them.

There are no coil packs that I know of on the 2.5i there are wires and at 130k you probably will want to replace those along with the plugs.

Struts get yourself a set of the KYB GR2/ExcelG struts. As for mounts unless they are broken, they can be reused, I don't see any reason to replace the rears, if anything the front might need replacing.

No external filter for the 08 4eat tranny. A flush would be nice to do.

^^^

07+ 4eat doesn't have external filter. :)

As Mike said, check the 30/60/90k service lists and service those items
