taylormac1993
Well since I didn't replace the rod bearings and everyone's telling me that the Headgaskets I used are crap, (too little, too late, but whatever), I'm considering completely rebuilding my EJ25D. I have a few options for this and I want to ask you guys which you think is best. A) Have a shop rebuild it Pros: It's done right Warranty Cons: Expensive as hell Car will be OOC for a good two weeks while it's in the shop B) Buy a swappable motor and build it on the side Pros: Have a car to drive until it's time to swap Cheaper than a shop Cons: Much more potential mechanical and electrical problems No warranty Still pretty expensive C) Drive it until it dies, scrap it, buy a new car Pros: Don't have to care about the car Cons: Starting from scratch (again) D) Trade it in on a newer car Pros: Newer car Dealer warranty Tons more options RELIABILITY No engine work Cons: Dealers suck Get less value for the car Payments/Interest Have to hold down a job for a few months first (meaning my Leggy has to last that long) E) Sell car, buy new one from dealer Pros: Newer car Dealer Warranty More options RELIABILITY No engine work Get more money for current car Cons: Still a dealer Payments/Interest Hold a job for a few months Might have to walk to work if I sell the car soon enough

It depends on how long my current build lasts. Everyone keeps saying that my head gasket choice was bad and that it's going to fail my engine in a week. But I don't drive it like a bat out of hell so I don't think it will.
subikid90
Have a shop rebuild it. Make sure you find a subaru shop, not just any shop. It will be the most reliable solution for the price. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
dark_thorns
i'm actually in the process of B. I just did a quick patch on my ej25d, blown headgasket go figure, so I got some headgasket repair shit that I just poured into the coolant system after flushing and it's held up so far. it saves me the headache of having to worry about my motor, and honestly it's not as expensive to build it yourself as what people make it out to seem. plus, now I can do a few personal modifications to the motor and do a trial and if it fails...well that would suck but hell i'll have under $1,000 in the project so screw it. junkyard motor: $240. enough said. =)
