JVC head unit turning off and on with bluetooth

Have just put a JVC KD-X330BT into my 1999 BH wagon. Whenever I connect Bluetooth it switches off and back on (pretty sure it has done this with bluetooth not connected, but that is the way I can trigger it with certainty).

I installed it using an after market harness and have also tried grounding on the chassis where (I think) the handbreak wire grounds.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? I returned the head unit and got a new one and the same issue still happens, so unless I am very unlucky it's not a bad unit.

There is a band expander installed since it is a jap import car. This was wired to the ignition power wire. Have the issue whether this is connected to the red wire or not.
