What are the minimum required wires to have the oem navigation work

I would like to install oem navigation on my car, I managed the get the oem screen + the oem navigation unit (KAN-DV3200).

What are the minimum required wires to have the unit working for basic navigation? I presume I need the below:

·Direct battery (+BAT)

·GND

·ACC

·Ignition

·Illum

According to the screen block diagram I should use the below pins:

CIMG0001

However there is a little bit different on this diagram comparing to the car service manual wire diagram for the navigation wiring:

Display wiring diagram (Navigation)

Car wiring diagram (Navigation)

Do I need to connect the Parking (Pin 7 ) and Speed S (Pin 4) ?

For the navigation unit I think I need ( +BAT, GND, ACC and Ignition)

Thanks,

You'd be better off running all the wires that the service book has listed. If you can get a hold of the 3 wire harness plugs and the cable that connects each unit you'd be better off when you have to wire it all up.

You're still going to need the underseat "Navigation Unit" if you want it use is as a GPS. The screen it's self does not actually have that functionality built in.

Edit: Apparently I cant read, you do have the underseat unit. One additional set of wires that you'll need is the "Nav+/-" ones that go to the radio. This is how you'd actually hear the spoken directions.

Thank you very much guys, I stick with the car service manual diagram. I assembled the unit in my home and it seems to be working fine. I used the below pins only:

15 & 16 GND

13 grounded for car parking sensor.

3 GND for ILL

4 connected to reverse backup light (for the backup camera)

11 ILL to switch to night mode

8 12V Direct battery

5 IG

7 Acc

I don’t want to interact with the car wiring system therfore I just ignored the below pins:

12 VDC (speed sensor)

6 & 14 CAN connector.

When I click the Info button I got “communication error” on the screen, I think this related to pins 6 & 14 but other functions’ are fine.

Unfortunately the unit comes without the wire harness so I just solder the cables directly into the unit pins. For the screen I used Male/Female 20 pin computer power supply cable and I used CAT6 cable for the Navi unit. this will allow me to easily install and remove the unit.

Tomorrow I am going to install the unit in my car, before that I need to know the required wire that need to be connected to the radio for the navigation direction.

can you please help me to find out the required pins for audio (from the screen to the radio) , I am not going to solder the whole 20 pins L

Its not hard to install the factory nav if you have the time and are capable of doing electrical work. I've put the oem nav in my car, some say its junk and isn't worth it but its up to you to decide if you want it or not.

I have almost finished the installation of my oem navigation, everything is working fine for now except for the voice since I don’t have the wire harness that’s connect the screen to the radio.

I'll do it later, the audio connector has 20 pins, I have either to order the wire harness or make my own harness (using cheap and available PC connectors to save +200USD), but this requires lots of soldering and time which I don't have right now.

Since my car was not prewired for navigation system and I did not get the original wire harness; most of the installation time was for soldering and tracing out the required car wiring.

Beside of hours of reading service manuals and technical block diagrams because my car done only 7K and I don’t want to burn Instrument harness or the “body integrated unit” J

I use the below car connector:

B228 (OP connector), pin #5 for Speed sensor and pin #6 for reveres signal.

I59 ( clock connector ), pin # 1 for LLUMINATION, pin #2 for GND, pin #9 for ACC & IG and pin #10 for direct battery.

I103 ( CAN > TV screen ) pin #2 and pin#4 ‘now if I click the info button I am not getting communication error any more, instead I got the acceleration, fuel consuming and the average MPG gauges”.

In my opinion it worth to have the OEM navigation system, the dashboard looks good with the oem and it is better than having an aftermarket system.

I agree its nice to have the oem nav in the car. Its why I added it to my 5sp car.

Oh and this is for the the cord that connects the two units together.

DIN CORD ASSY: E30-6199-05

Cord For dvd drive unit: E30-4964-05

Both from here http://store.kenwoodusa.com/index.php

You can get both for right around a $100

KKhiedr - what year and model is your car? On earlier years, the nav audio comes into the HU via two pins on the 8-pin i88 harness. See pin-out here.

I have the pins and some of the different connectors that plug into the radio's i88 socket and some of the different sockets on the nav components. E-mail me for more info.

  • 1 year later...

I have retro fitted an OE Nav unit from and '05 Legacy RN into my '04 Legacy R.

If you buy the installation kit H0010AG011 you get the screen surround including the vent trim and 2 cable interconnects to wire into the main loom and connect to the radio. H0018AG990 cord navi monitor, H0010AG992 cord radio satl sw.

Head unit works great and you can access all features (radio beeps too)

Problem I have is there is no connection to the DVD player other than the large brown circular din connector lead so I cant use that function.

Dealer suggests there is another lead required for fitting into an '04 3.0R H0018G991 but you cant buy it!!

Can anyone share how the DVD is driven. I'm hoping it needs just a power supply.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Martin

Is the dvd player driven by the head unitrunning? IS it communication via the circular pin and needs only power in or is it more complex

Hey guys, I just did this up for myself (attempting to tackel the install) can someone verify that I have this right? Please and thank you.

Also, these pinouts and conenctors would have been done for a GT, i only have a 2.5i... should the connectors be the same?

Looking at the back side (where the wires are)

I created my own thread. If you would like to see updates check out my thread here:
