Exhaust leak/What freaken gasket to use? (Help please)

Recommended Posts

I own a 2005 Legacy GT. In the summer I purchased a Borla Cat back exhaust. When I purchase the exhaust I asked for them to send me a gasket which they did. They sent me a flat gasket like you'd have for a manifold or header.

When I installed this it seemed as if it required a round bubbled/thicker gasket.

Doing some research its as if a N/A gasket was originally on my cars exhaust (The bubbled type) Between the cat and the mid pipe. When doing the cat back it now seems as if the flat gasket is not sealing properly to a flanged end. Does anyone know which gasket I'm supposed to use.

This is what they say the OEM N/A would be, but what I feel I should have with my Turbo. (This seems like what we had to chizzle off the cat)

This is what they sent me.

I don't see all the pictures...are you looking for a donut gasket? I have a handful lying around...

That is my understanding but everywhere I look says its for the N/A. Not sure why mine would have that version if I have the turbo.

What would you need for one?

If you're mating the exhaust to the stock DP then you would need a donut gasket, not a flat one. If you're using an aftermarket 3" DP and a 2.5" exhaust, you'll need an adapter like one that Grimmspeed sells along with a donut and flat gasket.

It is between the Cat and the Mid pipe, not down pipe. I can not put a high flow in or I would. Issues with putting more power/tune that will possibly cause problems with my engine due to internal damage with a leak down. So I have a stock down pipe, stock cat, cat goes to borla exhaust which I was told bolted right up find to the cat.

When removing the original midpipe and back, we had to chisel away an old gasket which did not seem flat. I wish I had picture of this at the time but don't. It seemed as if the donut should have gone there.
