Why was the turbo replaced, ...LACK OF OIL and proper maintenance ?

Was the 30,000 mile maintenance done.

Wow the cabin air filter was replaced at 35,000, that's worth a whole $10.00.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

Even though Legacy turbos are known to go, at 35K there should be no reason it went other than owner error. Granted anything is possible but something seems fishy. Get all records of the car and triple check them. If there are none or only a few then I would walk away.

So i spoke with the owner and he said that he purchased this car off a tow yard and the reason the turbo was replaced was because he saw blue smoke coming from the exhaust. Theres no servuce records from the original owner as he is the second owner. I am hesitant to buy this vehicle but if i did, id probably offer the guy a ridiculous lowball like 13,500 lol. Any thoughts to if i should even take the gamble and ultra lowball him?

If he'll let you, have the car checked out by a mechanic. Blue smoke and 35,000 miles don't sound good to me.

I agree blue smoke at 35k is no good. Then again any smoke other then cold start exhaust at 35k is no good lol.

He said blue smoke before turbo was replaced, after replacement its good. Ill probably take it to a local subie shop to get it checked out if he'll let me.

If the turbo seal went it would do blue smoke, if the turbo shot craps in any way you would probably see blue smoke.

The kicker would be if metal went through the motor.

With 1K left on the warranty and only a few months it would be a gamble.

You could easily put 5-8K in it immediately after purchase if the motor goes.

You can get the VIN number and go to any subaru dealer and they can run the VIN and get the service records
