Pinsk18
Alright everyone. Found out the other day my project lgt's motor is shot. So, I've read a lot about doing a 3.0, or 3.3 motor swap. I want to know if anyone has ever attempted to put one of these motors in a BG5, or if it is possible, how much work will it entail. I can get either motor and all the parts form where I work, so thats not a problem. I just want to know what is involved. Please let me know if there are any links to threads I should look at, to do more research. Thanks.
subikid90
If you cannot weld or do not know someone who can weld for you this project it probably not for you. The motor will fit, but you will have to modify the radiator placement and fans to make it fit. You will also need a custom exhaust. If you are mechanically inclined and can splice a few wire it will not be too hard. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted March 31, 2012 I Donated Share Posted March 31, 2012 Wiring harness merge and the H6 ecu will be needed. No welding is required. Everything can be bolted. You will need to run a saab radiator (forget what one) and the slim electric fans. -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Pinsk18
I can weld and am mechanically inclined. I also will have help from a family member. If you could find out the radiator and fans I would need, I would appreciate it. Or tell me where I can find out. Thanks.
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted April 1, 2012 I Donated Share Posted April 1, 2012 It was an early 90s saab radiator..I don't remember what model it was out of. The fans that were used were the slim aftermarket electric fans -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." TexasLegacy2.5GT
The old SVX EG33 motor needs the new fans and not the EZ30 IIRC. The eg33 was a longer engine and the EZ30 was less then an inch longer then the EJ25D motor in most 2nd gen LGT's

monkeyposeur
As soon as I finish my SS rebuild and my EJ22T swap into my second gen I'll start gathering parts. First I'll install the EG33 and then think about installing the turbo. It probably won't even need it, lol! How sick would that be to have a V6 brat? It will be the ultimate Utah desert rally car. Pinsk18
Those motors look so good in this car. Thanks for that link also. Can I use the AT already in my gt or do I need to get one for the H6? Where did you find those pics? TexasLegacy2.5GT
The eg33 is the harder swap do to the fact it is longer. The EZ30 motor is only .25 inch longer so you may keep your fans. I'd do the EZ instead of the EG H6 if I were you.
Pinsk18
What about the rad? Am I going to need to change that if I do the EZ3.0 swap?
Pinsk18
^Double! So I will be getting the motor from work within the next two weeks and the other parts in the meantime. Then the fun begins.
