BG5 Engine swap

Recommended Posts

Alright everyone. Found out the other day my project lgt's motor is shot. So, I've read a lot about doing a 3.0, or 3.3 motor swap. I want to know if anyone has ever attempted to put one of these motors in a BG5, or if it is possible, how much work will it entail.

I can get either motor and all the parts form where I work, so thats not a problem. I just want to know what is involved. Please let me know if there are any links to threads I should look at, to do more research. Thanks.

If you cannot weld or do not know someone who can weld for you this project it probably not for you.

The motor will fit, but you will have to modify the radiator placement and fans to make it fit. You will also need a custom exhaust.

If you are mechanically inclined and can splice a few wire it will not be too hard.

Wiring harness merge and the H6 ecu will be needed.

No welding is required. Everything can be bolted. You will need to run a saab radiator (forget what one) and the slim electric fans.

I can weld and am mechanically inclined. I also will have help from a family member. If you could find out the radiator and fans I would need, I would appreciate it. Or tell me where I can find out. Thanks.

It was an early 90s saab radiator..I don't remember what model it was out of. The fans that were used were the slim aftermarket electric fans

You need to weld unless you like clamped or JB welded exhaust lol

So good! I should do an H6 turbo swap into a Brat for a fun project.

As soon as I finish my SS rebuild and my EJ22T swap into my second gen I'll start gathering parts. :)

First I'll install the EG33 and then think about installing the turbo. It probably won't even need it, lol! How sick would that be to have a V6 brat?

It will be the ultimate Utah desert rally car.
