HIDs From Personal Use?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm about to purchase HIDs for my 09 Legacy and am wondering which ones you currently have/had on your cars. After a bit of reading around here on LGT it seems like 35w is the way to go rather than 55, although I would be very curious as to what the 55w would look like (I have the bigger the better mentality). Is it really justifiable to spend the extra on the Morimoto (or Diode)? I can totally see spending the extra coin if it is a superior product. I'd Rather spend $150 now to save myself down the road when balasts/bulbs blow.

None of those links work, but eh, I just Google'ed em.

Since legacy's already use projectors, I would just plop some nice bulbs in there and call it good, I mean do a search and read reviews, but if the light pattern has a good cutoff and none of the light scatters it should be good. Don't need to go crazy and buy new projectors and all. Just my 2c.

I have the DDM slim line and they have been working great for the last 3-4 years (can't remember exactly).

The ballasts are so small that you can do a really stealth install. You can't even tell I have them with my install.

The stuff from TRS is by far the best you can get, short of OEM. I've gone through multiple ballasts from DDM, and other slim ballasts sold by vendors here.

The whole package from TRS is awesome compared to the "others." The included harness is one of the best I've seen from any company, and the bulbs are very high quality.

I say go with TRS.

I have the Diode Dynamics one in 4300k and while it works well, if i had to do it again i'd probably jump for the TRS drop in kit (using stock projectors). There is nothing really wrong with the Diode Dynamics kit it just doesn't have the quality i'd like.

We used to use the DDM ones for a few years. The last year or so their quality has shot down considerably since they ship directly from china now. We've had so many failures we stopped carrying them.

Getting warranty replacement also involves a 4-6 wk shipment from china as well which is a bit ridiculous in my opinion.

TRS Morimoto full-retro here. Very nice kit, especially considering the cost, and will make you a headlight snob instantly, even if you were impartial to headlights before.

They constantly listen to feedback from the customers and improve their hardware. It still takes a little work to do a clean, OEM-like installation (wiring harness), but it is well worth the effort.
