Inferno Fabrication 2.5i UEL Kit

Recommended Posts

Well for many many months I've been trolling/nagging/begging Inferno Fab to show the 2.5i some love. And magically one day I bought 1 one of the first sets produced to run in my 08 Legacy.

It's a slightly different take on achieving the goal of UEL by going two-piece vs integrated. I actually love their design as you could easily run catless(you young gas monkeys) mod your stock to mate via V-band or run the Catpipe!!

I have the mild steel unit as I plan to coat and wrap them but they offer full stainless. Once it arrives I'll make an install guide, grab some sound clips and give impressions.

Some shots of the kit! This is one of the first ones Inferno Fabrication built and for the Legacy/OB owners there are some adjustments being made as a result of my fitting and modifying it to fit. The Legacy exhaust is longer than the Impreza exhaust by about 7" so I had to extend my cat pipe to mate properly but that is being remedied by Inferno fabrication for future order, I image they will offer two cat-pipes 1 for the Impreza owner another for the Legacy/OB owner. I am not sure about the Forester as it may be longer than the Impreza but I know that Legacy and OB share a platform.

Initial fit and finish are great, TIG welds are flat and clearances are fine. If you run a larger FSB you may need to put a dimple in the header merge collector as there isn't much room there with the stock FSB but that won't affect performance and it may get incorporated in the future kits.

On my 08 2.5i with dual stock exhaust the tone is perfect:) no cabin drone.

One thing to note this kit was based on the 2.5i Impreza so the cat-pipe is shorter however since I fit the prototype and figure this part out I think Inferno Fab will now ask for your specific mode 2.5i and send you a longer cat-pipe. This is the first of their kits on a Legacy and Im glad to work to help out the kinks so the larger community can benefit from a flawless product.

It is built well and the sound is great I think my 08 2.5i with stock CBE and this kit, now sounds like my 09 LGT w/ Bosal v1 SPT. I don't say that lightly as I feel the Bosal v1.5 SPT is the best LGT exhaust ever

I also have the mild kit so ill coat it with VHT Flameproof primer, cure it then wrap it with DEI Titanium wrap. The initial burn in went well the cat and pipes have a nice gold hue to them after a few miles. No P0420 or any codes so far, I rerouted the stock location AFR and O2 to the rear of the engine to attach the new location of those sensors. Stock splash guards are unaffected.

This is nice. I'll be watching the thread for updates since I am in need of some exhaust repairs soon. Looks like your stock exhaust has three sensors. I noticed only two on the new setup. I need to get me a factory service manual to learn more about this car. I could not find the cat pipe on their website. Did you have to weld on the sensor bungs on the cat pipe?

So i previously ran a modified turbo stock manifold to mate to my stock 2.5i exhaust and i moved the O2 to the centerpiece so I had a bung placed downstream of the second cat. in stock form there is no sensor there. I did that so i could swap btw stock and UELs at will all i needed to do is plug in the right O2 :)

Pricing directly form Inferno Fab varies depending on the material you choose (stainless, mild, or other) Your stock AFR and O2 will work fine. The larger sway may touch the primary i actually put a light dent on mine to give me another 1/16" of clearance.

I contacted them via FB and the buying and communication process was great. Response time was minutes and shipping was great, considering I bought the first one and it had to be built, took about a week.

Did you get tuned for the UEL kit? Also I think this would be nice on my can on the back. :)

Hey Otto, thanks for sharing this! I was close to having a shop modify a LGT stock manifold to fit to my car but I think this is a better choice. What do you think? I have an 06 2.5i btw.

The kit is great it has the O2 bungs and the fit is great. Ive put about 600 miles on this kit all in the city and no CELs. Ill pull it off and coat it with VHT when i put it in the shop for HGs later in the summer. But I am still impressed with how not obnoxious this sounds with stock CBE

Thanks for the info, I messaged them and they do in fact have the longer pipe for our legacies. I am buying this for sure, waiting for my tax refund :0

I am going to email or PM them also. As long as it mates up to my stock stuff, I am going to throw these on. Gee how do you like them so far? Also You did say that the stock O2 fit right in correct?

Hey Gee, can you post a vid with some revs. I want these on but I wanna hear how it sounds with everything else stock (assuming you have stock exhaust with these headers). I currently have Nameless Exhaust 5in mufflers but I am probably going to sell them and have a custom muffler welded instead.

That is the UEL kit with stock CBE if you want a totally obnoxious exhaust  you can start by swapping the axle back portion. I would stay away from any straight through muffler and anything larger than 2.5". If you swap out the CBE expect drone.

Thanks for making the clip! Wow it sounds way better than I thought. I expected it to be really quiet, I was worried I would need to buy other exhaust parts to bring out the rumble but this header is enough for that reason. Makes me want to sell my Nameless Axleback so I can use the funds for this header. Decisions decisions

I plan on putting the same coating on the headers as you since I chose mild steel as well. Do you think it will be fine without wrapping? Also, is it okay to drive with the headers without any coating for awhile, say a month?

Edit: Do you get that sewing machine sound effect?
