05 LGT - RSB reinforced mount?

In looking through the Sway Bar FAQ, I am wondering if this quote applies to the 05 LGT:

 

The rear swaybar mounts have been known to break with larger swaybars. Whiteline, Perrin, and Cobb all have stronger mounting brackets available. The cheapest replacement option, however, are the 04-07 Impreza mounts, which are reinforced. They use a new bushing, and that Whiteline part number is W0406-[mm].

 

I am looking to put on a 20 mm RSB to tighten up the handling "just a bit".

I am not looking for anything aggressive for my DD.

Yes they are, installed mine 2 weeks ago, waited 2+ months. If they aren't available there on the boat :lol:

Good to know, we stopped offering them for sale because the availability of them was ridiculously long and most of our walk-in customers want to get something done within a few days.

None available. Current listing of products in route from Japan now show ZERO RSB mounts. No inventory from Japan in all of 2013 and the first 3 shipments coming show NO RSB mounts.

 

Firggin amazing. Would have thought that AVO actually finally having a true Wholesale US distributor would have fixed the inventory problems, but it has not. Now instead of being unable to fill multiple small inventory orders they are failing to fill a HUGE 6 figure inventory order.

 

Can you tell how frustrated I am with AVO product availability right now?

Seeing that they're the last player making these, it's a giant pain. AVO doesn't seem to give much feedback to their customers about their supply line. (or lack thereof). I'll give them another month (did I just say a month ?) and I'm bagging the order and making my own.

I have a set that is currently on the shelf in my garage--I should just bring them to the machine shop and ask them to start replicating them...kinda ridiculous that there seems to be a market for them and AVO is no longer shipping / stocking them.

Seems like a simple enough design that someone could reproduce and sell easily to a platform that can benefit from it greatly due to the weak ass stock RSB mounts.

 

I don't know welders really, but I have a machine shop that's like a fun house of presses and cnc machines. They'd probably want to do the things out of a block of aluminum, lol.

Many times have I threatened to make a few sets myself. I called Cobb about 1 week ago and tried to bribe them into making more of their RSB brackets (by placing an order for many, many sets). But the response was "product discountinued". Unfortunately, with everything I have taken on in the last two months, I do not have the time or capital to go into production on another new part.

Hmmm. Eff it. I'll talk to some people next week just to see what they say. My guess is that the decision will be really easy--they'll either be able to produce them at a reasonable price or it will just be astronomical.

 

Mike--any input on what materials would be suitable? I know some people in 3D printing as well, I'm wondering if an ABS plastic type material would be suitable at all? My gut tells me no, but I'm not an engineer and I'm not entirely aware of the true forces that are placed on those stock mounting tabs--I do know that it doesn't look like it takes much to bend / brake them.

Same here, I looked into producing them, but without economies of scale, the numbers just didn't work out for us to produce them, even if we went with ultra-cheapo production in central China.

 

I checked with a few machine shops in the area here and that was also cost prohibitive. :(

No ABS. Steel. Basically anything better than the "pot" metal Subaru used. The AVO design is UBER easy to replicate. It is one of the more simple designs. Flat plate, tube, bung and a welder. Done.

 

My issue is economics of scale and resale value. F China. No offense to the Chinese, but I have gone down that road in the past and had nothing but heartache (meaning ZERO product produced ever hit the market, but it did hit the dumpster and my wallet). Making it here is too expensive unless the production numbers are so large I will die holding inventory (or a find an out of work GOOD welder willing to make a "deal").

I looked into this when mine were taking to long, I can have some made of chrome moly, but I have to have 100 made minimum. Crafted in USA retail $70-80. I just don't want to sit on 80 of these mounts, do you guys think there is that much demand. In the last 3 months I've only seen a handful of people wanting them. I'd need distributors and guys such as AZP & Infamous to preorder.

Problem is, I see selling maybe 50 of those sets (and having to work it hard to do so "quickly"). Then sitting on 50 sets for eternity. My limited funds are better spent elsewhere (like moving the shop to a larger space and procuring a Mustang dyno).

Not looking to have to "compete" with AZP for parts sales. Tough enough as it is already selling parts online. If we could stay afloat with just the shop, we would. I commend Mike and the "boys" at AZP for staying in the game so long without pushing parts online.

Yeah it's tough but pushing parts online takes up valuable time and resources fighting the online walmarts of this world. :)
