Please give more info?

Did the compressor grenade? wouldn't the intercooler stop debris? Oil run out after turbo failure?

Yes, more info please. I've been trying to understand why these turbo failures almost always trash the engine as well. If it's just oil starvation from pumping it out through the turbo, that should be easy to avoid with a low pressure or level alarm.

The dealer said the failure was due to a lack of oil causing (2qts low) the #4 cylinder rod to wearing, not sure on what, and created metal filings which clogged the filter to the turbo which the starved the turbo of oil. No warning, car ran fine up to the point that it didn't. I don't know when or how the oil was lost. It seems to me that an engine that has been maintained should be able too, under normal condition, survive a low oil condition without metal to metal wear.

Had you checked the oil recently? Do you think it could have been two qts low before the failure?

I think your dealer is trying to tell you that the egg laid the chicken. It seems much more likely that a turbo failure would cause oil to be lost into the intake and exhaust systems, which could then result in bearing and other engine damage. As well as getting metal bits into the turbo screen.

But even two qts low shouldn't cause oil starvation failure expect under extreme driving conditions. The pump would still pick it up, the oil would just run much hotter.

I have an 02 Outback sedan H6. The clear coat is starting to chip on the bumber(only has 64,000 on it) and I am thinking of painting the whole car the same color. It's currently Black Granite Pearl, with gold two tone. has anyone done this and if so do they have any pictures?

The car would look good in all black. That would also be the easier to go that direction since all the gold stuff is plastic and easily removable for painting. The car would have a nice factory look paint job when done. Then get some 17,18" wheels to finish it off.
