guisar
I'd like to find extended PID for oil temperature, pressure etc to use in the Torque application. Anyone know where these can be found- my google skills are evidently not up to the task. I have a 2005 LGT but I assume these are relatively generic to subarus. Max Capacity
OK I'll bite, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001890/ Is that what your asking about ? Sounds like you want to monitor oil temp and pressure. I don't understand your reference to a Torque application ? I'm old school and like direct reading gages better then some new fangled electronic gages. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). shutterbc
I believe he means: Torque Android application: http://www.appbrain.com/app/torque-pro-(obd2-car)/org.prowl.torque In OBD speak, PID stands for Parameter ID: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs And good luck, I haven't tried that because I'm lazy and just use my Tactrix cable instead. Though I have toyed with the idea of getting a Bluetooth OBD reader and datalogging on my smartphone. That would be a bit easier than using my netbook. shutterbc
Darn it, I forgot a point. The caveat there is that apps like Romraider use SSM protocol and don't use OBD to poll the data. So you may be running into a roadblock there. Might be worth reading through the Romraider forums or striking up a conversation over there. Max Capacity
Thanks for the links, I understand now. Wow if you can really get all that info from the OBDII port, why hasn't someone come out with a gauge set that uses that ? 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. RabidWombat
Thanks for the links, I understand now. Wow if you can really get all that info from the OBDII port, why hasn't someone come out with a gauge set that uses that ? Not all cars support all parameters. shutterbc
There are tools that use the OBDII data and display it. One of the more popular models is the ScanGauge. There is also the UltraGauge. The Torque application for Android works in a similar way and is gaining traction (no pun intended). I think it's awesome that they have a wiki: http://torque-bhp.com/wiki/Main_Page According to the changelog there is SSM support (though I don't know if that is used since the readers would have to support it) and the iwsti folks have used it succesfully. Cool stuff.
Mega Users seabass07 Posted November 12, 2011 Mega Users Share Posted November 12, 2011 Your only options are to use a drain plug oil temp sensor and gauge or a computer running a program that uses ssm to get info from the ecu. As far as i know there is no way to access that through a typical obd2 reader. What we need to do is get someone with a bit of linux experience to port freessm or romraider to android. They are already working in linux.
Mega Users seabass07 Posted November 12, 2011 Mega Users Share Posted November 12, 2011 Apparently dashdaq has the pid you need. Im sure you have to buy their shit though. http://www.dashdaq.com/specs/datalists/subaru.htm Edit...nvm. it looks like its just a generic pid. Probably wont work. ehsnils
You may also find some useful info over here: http://subdiesel.wordpress.com/ It's for the diesel, but it has some interesting general stuff too.

If you go to the brand specific page (http://www.dashdaq.com/specs/datalists/subaru.htm) there is a TON more info including oil temp and pressure) which is available. I already use Torque on a tablet for the basic stuff and it allows you to add new data if you know the extended PID info. I am still figuring someone here must know these or where to get them. shutterbc
I was just checking through vacation pix for something else, and decided to check for the existence of an oil pressure sensor. Looks like our LGTs just have oil pressure switches. That might explain why we don't have a PID for oil pressure.
Metal2You
Bump/Sub. I also want a list of the OBD PID's. I just got a bluetooth OBDII reader and the Torque app. It is working fine, but I need to program in some extended PID's for things like : Knock Correction Dynamic Advance Dynamic Advance Multiplier A/F Trim Current A/F Trim Learned WGDC Thanks. You have to add you own oil pres/temp senders if you want to monitor those parameters.
