boynamedsue
Ok, so I'm not getting any love in the brakes section, I'll try over here. Don't let me down 2nd Gen. guys, lol... The handbrake on my 97 lgt wagon is all messed up. The button doesn't pop back out. For it to pop out, I have to pull it up several times and let it drop down for the button to kind of vibrate it's way out. Is there a way to fix this? I've searched for this issue and can't find a thread so I decided to post. Thanx in advance.
mailman
Mine does the same thing. I've been meaning to check it out but have more pressing issues to deal with... maybe someone already knows. It might be something simple like the spring getting dirty or something.
monkeyposeur
Did you try spraying the button with silicone spray and pushing it in a few times? When I get a chance and I'm at my computer I can post a diagram of the handbrake assembly from the fsm.
spooln30
Remove the center console and inspect the hand brake assembly.
boynamedsue
When I originally bought the car, it looked as though it had been in a flood. So I pulled all the interior out except dash and ebrake. I did, however, spray simple green and hose down the ebrake assembly in place with no better results. So I guess next, I'll have to pull the ebrake out too. I hope its not as big a pita as my 66 bug.
monkeyposeur
Maybe this will help.
shicken
I encountered the same problem. removed the panel around the brake lever - spray lube at the mechanism and work it until it frees up.
boynamedsue
Well I pulled it all apart and cleaned it, sprayed white lithium grease in there, still no better. So now I think I'll just go to the wrecking yard.
