I would suggest Sonny's in Saugus, MA. They did an excellent job on my OBXT. They also did a dark tint on my massive sunroof too. Their number is (781) 233-3647 and they're located on 434 Central St. in Saugus, MA. My whole thing including the sunroof was $275, their standard price for a sedan would be $185, mine was extra because it's a wagon and the big sunroof.

I just got my LGT wagon tinted at Xtreme Clean in Weymouth. They've been around for years. Great reputation - I know somebody with an STI who also used them and was thrilled. They did an awesome job on my car. (Sorry, no pics yet.) Did 35% all around (except windshield). It looks great against the Silver body. Cost was $250. Ask for Alex.

From a "noob + 1" [err or minus one depending on which way you go after your first tint ]

The link I posted above has a little information - that's basically why I went there, because there was little information to be googled. They also had pictures of cars that had been done there so I could see roughly how my wagon would look.

From what I understand from the pamphlet I got with my install, llumar is gauranteed for life not to turn color and is pretty good stuff.

As for "what the hell do I get"? I just asked the guy to tint the windows and keep it legal - which I guess means 35% opacity.

You can get darker, but then you have to worry about passing inspection (and if you get pulled over, I guess you can get trouble if it's really dark... like limo style 5%)

tint king is the best i've heard of.

he uses cad to make templates electronically, then he has a plotter (real big printer :) ) to actually print out the exact template of your glass. my buddies audo came out great. no hand cutting. just print and apply.

Got mine done at Tint King also...$250 for Llumar, non-metaillic (to avoid interfering with radio reception on AM), lifetime warrantee, 35% back five windows, 40% on the front two, all done in an hour, conveniently located in Billerica.

DO NOT GO TO XTREME CLEAN IN WEYMOUTH.

After 5 trips there and back they finally got it right. Problems included:

Double charged my credit card

Ruined two full windows somehow by etching the shit out of them on the outside. True story - they replaced them and everything.

Bubbles and cutting problems.

One window had to be tinted over three times. Three.

In his defense, the owner Mark was a great guy and made everything right in the end. With every trip he washed and cleaned the car, and he detailed it once and gave me $100 GC for another exterior detail whenever I want it. He's a good guy, but whoever's doing his tinting is a hack. Buyer beware.

And now for a grain of salt... Dude, he made it right. That means you should at the worst just keep your mouth shut. There are some grumpy people out there who don't even admit they've done things wrong. Sounds like he didn't only make things right (to cover his ass) but he went a bit further so you wouldn't bad mouth him.

Mistakes happen, and people who are attentive to customers even when things go wrong are the best kind IMHLO.

He did make it right, but after 5 trips there and back. 5. That's means I'm without my car, driving a borrowed Ford Escort. That's unreasonable and I can't sit here with my mouth shut while they're being recommended.

Did he wash my car? Yeah. Did he give me a coupon for half a detail (exterior only)? Yeah. Big deal. After the first trip my glass was all etched up, and when I brought it back he asks if I have glass insurance. I say yes. The windows magically got fixed. You tell me how that was accomplished. Insurance fraud? Who knows.

I really appreciated his efforts to make things right (and I even felt bad for him a little), but there's no way I could ever recommend that anyone ever go through all that shit.

But thanks for telling me to keep my mouth shut. You know best, right?

Pics following my first trip - if anybody likes this, and doesn't mind getting mixed up with shady practices involving your own auto insurance policy, then, by all means, you know where to go:

I wouldnt' say I know best... but with enough sleep and then coffee, I can read:

...was a great guy and made everything right in the end.

Maybe you should have asked for another $150 dollars off after getting the $100 coupon... better yet, for the best price - do it yourself. Did you choose them for their price or for their quality (at $250)?

I'm not trying to tell you what you should do - just highlighting the discrepency about them being horrible /*and*/ making it right. Those two things are mutually exclusive in my approach to 'getting stuff done'.

But those are some pretty nasty pictures and dropping your car off 5 times ridiculous... I just sat across the street at the Dunkin Dounuts and watched mine get done for an hour and change after work.

He was a great guy, and he did make everything right in the end. I appreciate the way he, as a small business owner, treated me throughout the process, but that's miles away from a recommendation, regardless of how many times he apologized. If anything I think it warrants a warning to others: In my experience, they are terrible at window tinting.

Doing the job myself was not an option - I've seen too many bad examples of that on the road.

I picked them because I mistook their business for one I had used 6 years earlier when I had my Acura. Same exact location (close to home), same color scheme on the sign, just a different name (used to be Ultimate Detail). That tint was excellent and lasted years, but the company apparently went out of business.

Notwithstanding the above, I do understand your point. If I knew the guy was reading my original post I'd feel kind of guilty about it, but isn't that what the internet and forums like this are all about? Sharing info and getting the word out about products and/or services, good and bad alike?

The bottom line is that while he may be a nice guy with great customer service skills (the issue of surreptitiously replacing my glass aside), he has a fawking moron doing his tints. Next time I'll be going to Tint King.

I'm not in the boston area, but for those in the central mass area I recommend worcester speedometer and radio (yeah, the name throws you off). the price they quote me for seamless tint was $235 for all windows except windshield. they did my first car and it came out excellent with a guarantee- I only had it 4 years, but no problems. I've been recommended to ziebart by someone who had it done there- anyone else? they quoted me at 224.95 and they do the laser printout deal there.

So Llumar is a good choice? I noticed your vehicle is wagon, so I assumed for sedan, the price would be less than $250? Who should I contact @ Tint King?

I am thinking of getting in done within a month.

Thanks.
